Hey ATS,
Im kind of new here, but I have a question to ask the more knowledgeable types. The one thing I have always wondered is how you tell the difference between actual important events and false positives. For example, earlier last week some people were saying that the earthquakes were in some way nefarious and were saying they were a false flag or whatever. How do you tell the difference between an actual legitimate conspiracy (not sure if that was the right word) and some mundane every day event? My other question deals with numerology. How do you tell if something actually fell on an auspicious date for a reason or if it was pure coincidence? Thanks for the help!

Mods, if this is filed wrong could you help me out? Thanks

You are going to get a million answers, but only mine is correct.

Numerology is bunk. Ignore it. Any number can be manipulated to mean anything you want. Those numerology threads are very entertaining though. Take any number, say.....9, then say, 9 is actually 3x3 or 33, and 33 is the number of degrees in Masonry, or the parallel of significance, etc., etc. (I just pulled 9 out of the air, I didn't think about it ahead of time. Dam. Let me try again.) Ok, take any number say, 8, and 8 is actually the square root of 64 and 64 is also 33 plus 31, so there will be something significant on the 33 parallel and 31st Meridian, and then google it, and sure enough you find something.
You can pick any number and make it fit any conspiracy. It is bunk.

Now, as for what is important and what isn't important, it is everything and nothing. There is so much information to be garnered from this site, and I have learned more on ATS than all of my other education combined, but at the same time, almost none of it is relevant to the real world!
It is great place to expand your mind and increase your conversational knowledge, but it won't do much for you in any other realm of your life.

I starred your post because I am impressed by the fact that you asked these legitimate questions. I wish that more new people would ask questions like this instead of posting nonsense. My only bit of advice would be to use the ATS search option liberally and research your subject. I was a very long time lurker before I even made my first post, let alone my first thread. You are doing the right thing by getting a feeling for the place by reading a lot of responses first. Thumbs up to you ...and welcome.

Great answer!

I would like to add that, to my mind, conspiracies can usually be confirmed to a great extent by doing independent research. It's easy (and common) enough for someone to show up here with what to them is a huge, raging conspiracy, and it turns out to be BS. And it's usually because they either didn't confirm the facts for themselves, or gullibly bought into someone else's lies on a Youtube or Disclose.tv video (or *fill in your own sensationalist conspiracy-screaming website*), or--and this is extremely common--have a severe reading-comprehension problem. Or, they have their own weird worldview and just made it up out of whole cloth.

So, the answer is: Real conspiracies can be followed down and confirmed or debunked with a bit of work. Sometimes the poster does most of the work for you, but sometimes you have to be assiduous and confirm for yourself....

Edit: By the way, welcome. Please please please be one of the good ones and not another mindless troll or knee-jerk reactionary!

Thanks for the advice. One of the problems I have found that I have so far, is that I tend to read some obviously fake and absurd theory ( im sure you know the ones) and use that as a model to judge the more rational and legitimate ones. If possible, could you please point me in the direction of some of the better, longer and well thought out threads? I would really like to read some stuff that I could think critically about and read into without being slapped in the face by a bucket of crazy. Thanks!

One of the best ever...All Roads Lead to Rome

Also:
Mans Genetic Voyage, Facts, Speculation and Theories.

You can also use the Search function for "Best Threads Ever" and you will get threads where members post their favorites. Here is good thread with a lot of links.

You can also look at the Way Above Top Secret (WATS) for some top contributions. Slayer69 and Loam and DaddyBare and Protoplasmic Traveller are some of my favorite Thread Contributors.

Some of my favorite threads come from areas where I typically disagree. They are mind-opening and educational. Such as Masqua's How Many Races are There? Very enlightening.

Almost forgot SpartanKingLeonidas. His threads are always extremely well thought-out and put together.

We are all crazy in out own way here, therefore you can't judge everyone's degree of nuttyness off of one or two absurd theories. Besides, getting slapped in the face with a bucket of crazy can be fun sometimes, take it with a grain of salt.

How much difference can a letter make?

My brother recently told me he thought it was a blessing! So much less stress when you stop thinking with your little member instead of your big one! He is embracing it!

Don't take my levity the wrong way, I just didn't have time to answer your post earlier. I couldn't resist.

In answer to your first question, one word. Evidence.

In answer to your second question. I think you would have to take in to account the fact that we live in a massive universe with an infinite number system where random events take place. However we have a limited dating system. We only have 365 days and 12 months per year and a year is a relatively long period for events to take place. So with an infinite number of random events taking place, co-incidences with dates are going to take place.

Plus also the human intellect likes to see order in chaos so will see patterns in disorder even where there is no evidence that the pattern was placed there with intent. This is demonstrated when people see objects in clouds or images of Jesus and the Virgin Mary in liquid stains, pieces of toast and other random occurrences.
