You asked for any ideas, so, I'll hold you to that. People tend to "like" to hear things a certain way that fits into preconceived notions and this one doesn't fit in this thread's theme.

I would say to take the child to a neurologist.

Here are the reasons I am inclined to think that way.

I've seen all of those stars and bright lights; in an angiogram/anteriogram of my caratoid and vetebral arteries.

Further, I have scintillating scotomas (those spiraling flashy GEARS and stars). These can be associated with migraines (and yes, even migraines that are NOT accompanied by headaches.) Scintillating scotomas can also be associated with brain tumors; though, more raraely than the migraine type. Further, those scintillating scotomas are seen when awake and virtually block my field of vision.

I would highly suggest you to take your child in to be seen by a professional just to be on the safe side.

that is so awesome. its so neat to hear other people having similar and positive stories. at first i was a little worried, but not it seem to be more or a blessing than anything to be worried about. =]

ooops, i replied before i read the second post. sorry. that sounds just like my daughter (the part about falling back asleep) she said she felt so safe that she just went back to sleep, even though the light made it very bright in her room.

im not sure if this is an update or something just totally random, but last night at about 230 i random picture fell in my room. it was in a place where it wouldn't just fall...it hasn't in 3 years. then i fell back asleep. my daughter was in my room also. i woke up to my alarm clock and when i woke her up she told me that in a dream, she saw a similar shining thing, but this time it put a blue glitter like substance on her. she said it was like fairy dust, but this glittery blue sparkly stuff gave her powers. only she wasn't told what they were. So yeah, she said this time it was in her dream, but she still seemed very sure that it was real out of the dream too.

I ask her if she had a dream or to tell me about her dreams every morning, and usually its something silly, sometimes scary or sometimes nothing at all. but today she was certain that what happened in the dream was carried over into her awake state. the only difference between this and the last was this time she was in my room and in my bed with me, and my first thought was, maybe because i was close by it appeared in her dream rather than beside her physically. i have no idea. it was just interesting. =]

also, when she got home from school today, she said she still has these powers, and she wants to know what they are. i asked her where she saw the sparkles and she said it was only her that was covered this time, with the blue glitter. Someone mentioned it might be spots in her vision due to migraine like symptoms, but she said they were on her only and stayed on her. and with the bright light that was not a dream that happened previously, she said it was bright, but she could look away if she wanted to. it was like the sun, just close up and glittery.

not sure if any of this is helpful. just trying to give all the details so you guys can help me and better understand whats going on. this is interesting for sure. =] and thank you again everyone for the input! =]

Hi Jess,

Thanks for sharing your daughter's experience, as well as her recent dream. It's amazing to know that another person has experienced what I've wondered about from time to time, even though it happened so long ago.

I agree with your rationale regarding why she had a dream rather than an experience while awake. It's very interesting to think about and it made a lot of sense as soon as I read it.

When I think back to my experience, I can remember turning my head to see more directly into the light and I had to adjust my eyes to what I was trying to see in its entirety. So it definitely wasn't related to an eye problem and doesn't sound like one in your daughter's case either.

Maybe your daughter will find out what kind of powers were shared with her. I think that it's cool for you to be really open and responsive to her.
