escaping from the big city most important thing is moving without being seen.

the best advantage that other people dont have but what you do have is sewers if the uk is like the us in that respect maps to them at available at local libraries and other places.

cities also have rats you can eat when food becomes scare yeah it may turn you stomach but its call surviving not living high on the hog.

alot of city drewlers also have gardens of course that depends on local restrictions of space they can be back yard or on rooftops same with rain water collection.

both those depend on space and if your lucky enough to have them avaiable nest up is balconies agian depends if your lucky enough to have one.

if you have none of those things available stockpile closets underneath the beds if your luck enough to have an extrea bedroom or garage.

and agian all depends on how lucky you are many people will not be that fortunate if you cant do any of the above everyone has some space they are not using.

in my opinion the city is the last place i would want to be sure lots of supplies but one looting starts thats all gone.

best of luck

we city dwellers aren't intelegence impaired.

OK I stopped reading right there. I grew up on a small subsistence farm in rural Appalachia, one of the things I learned is that nothing on a hog is wasted...except its squeal.

But feel free to continue to delude yourself into thinking you will escape into some kinda rural 'paradise' ...after spending a lifetime in a cubicle, pushing a pen and paper around or typing on a keyboard, you're gonna find out the hard way that none of that # matters out here. I managed a few years working in the city , so I know your type, I doubt you spent any time in country living.

Hogs will eat anything, they will eat a man if they can get you down. I imagine in a SHTF situation most of you city veal will end up feeding the worms...or the swine.

ok my type is a carpenter, MOST professionals live in cities, not all of us are office drones.
cities have more plumbers, mores carpenters, mores building site labourers, more proffessionals than anywhere else.
shelter isn't a problem, food we loot will last a while and nothing will stop a mass popultaion of a city taking what it wants from its surrounding countryside.

I spend as much time in the country as possible, i have family and friends in the country side so by your standards i'm welcome. but that doesn't change the severity of desperation in people forcing them to take what they want. the numbers against you would probably be overwhelming, if you have a road on a map they'll find you and take what they can. desperation drives humanity to edge of survival, not preparation.

i'm not going to say anymore because i feel we're hogging the thread.

Get a gun, learn to shoot (or vise versa). If you want to be able to hunt you will need a rifle or shotgun (I'm not familiar with the wildlife out there)
But really, if you want to learn the best way to survive in the wild. Fly me to the UK and I will show you =)

Hunting is not much of an option in a large part of the UK. It might help to learn to fish and catch rabbits but that's about it.
For those in the UK there is a great UK focussed survival forum. Which also runs training on living in the wild. You need to make links with people like this. PM me if interested. The future will be all about networking. Lone rangers will be picked off.

A few tools you may need and can be bought fairly cheap at either specialist shops or websites or even at local markets (ex-military stuff or hiking, camping stalls)

A rucksack - make sure you test this a dozen times, check the pockets, the water proof cover, get to know the weight , capacity and storage slots. And only carry what you NEED to carry. Mainly clothing, water, fuel, food, and basic tools and maybe a tent.

Tent - 1 or 2 man tent - all weather. There's always somewhere you can pitch a tent, even behind a hedge or wall.

A multi-tool AND a decent knife - For everything from opening tins of food, to gutting a fish, cutting fuel or building a shelter.

Bunjee cords, rope or even decent - water-proof string. This is good for trying stuff down, building traps, holding shelters together etc

Then everything else is down to you - money, fuel (a waterproof bag with torn cardboard and twigs and matches is better than nothing), spare matches, lighter, dried food (soup, nuts, dried fruit) - make sure you can gain access to clean water everyday and carry a spare bottle.

Possible find somewhere safe to store your heavier equipment, so you can carry less when scouting for better places or water / food sources.

The rest is up to your imagination.
