Border police chief pleads guilty to running guns to Mexico

news.yahoo.com

From October to March, Vega was paid more than $10,000 to conduct counter-surveillance for the cartel, use a village-owned Ford F150 truck to run guns to Mexico and use his official position to try and arrange for the return of already-seized firearms to Gutierrez, Spitzer said.

At La Linea's request, he was also paid to carry out an official traffic stop on three Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents.

On February 10, Vega purchased thousands of dollars in body armor...

So this is how it's done. From the inside and at top levels. A police chief and former mayor of a border town, corrupt as sin.

I wonder how many kids are without mothers and fathers because of this guy- killed in the crossfire. He gets 35 years. But they got the coffin.

Prosecutors said that between January 2010 and March 2011, Vega's co-defendants, including the former mayor, used their positions to facilitate and safeguard the trafficking of around 200 guns worth about $70,000, including assault rifles, to Mexico, with Gutierrez running the conspiracy.

There's got to be a better way to stop people like this. :shk:

Don't worry about this, it's called Operation Fast and Furious, it's been covered. All the local government officials are gettin' in on the action. You know if we paid politicians in envelopes full of money during a midnight rendevouz they would probably take care of us better.

I don't know about THAT, but it certainly explains why they are taking such great care of Wall Street, the MIC, and their puppets all over.

For what? Oh, you mean forgery, fraud, and accusations of implementing socialism? Not to mention perpetuating war, collusion with a corrupt press, and faking his SS#?

Ahh yes, ok....I get it.

And btw, vitch, when are you going to get an avatar for Pete's sakes?

That seems to be how this is done for the whole sordid business, Drug War, gun running, etc. In this case it goes much higher up, at least to the CIA. This former police chief/mayor got his marching order from on high. If he was acting independently he's nailed.

Fast and Furious was a CIA operation

For that and for ordering operation ``let's give guns to mexican drug cartels``...

But wait you guys. I don't think this particular case had anything to do with that F&F Operation? I appreciate the mention and links, but....

Or are you saying that these people were part of F&F, and are taking the fall for it?

Clarify please. Or provide some kind of evidence these people in this case were part of it?

And Vitch, Ima post a thread in the off topic section called "Design an avatar for Vitchilo, the ATS top 5 contributor!"

No, I think that picture you have now pretty much sums it all up nicely.
This world has become one massive hurricane. Day in, day out.

Still waiting for evidence these guys are part of F&F Operation....

I doubt the ATF is going to jump out and claim complicity so that evidence may not be directly forthcoming. Very possible this was unilateral action in the same vein, likely for purer reasons though.

His arrest came in March, somewhat before Fast and Furious began to break. F&F dealt with the Sinaloa cartel and the newer reports that include the CIA also include the Zetas getting goodies too, though they were ostensibly who the Sinaloa cartel was tasked to save the Mexican government from (yeah, right).

F&F only mentions Sinaloa cartel but who knows that they were the only ones? The only ones that could be linked to F&F perhaps, so they won't openly expand the detail for the public.

Does it matter much? Chiefy wasn't doing anything the US government wasn't doing also, including getting caught. He's paying a price though.

Probably cause the guilty protect the guilty. You don't think O-sham-a is going to press those charges, do you?

Yeah right.

What pisses me off is the locals get snagged, charged and tried, yet the feds for operation fast and furious get promoted.

My thoughts exactly. This guy was probably just some schmuck who figured "I could sure use 10 grand," so he hooked the cartel up with some guns and armor. When the friggin ATF does it, they can pretend it was an undercover sting operation that just so happened to fail.

I think there's more to it, yes I do think it is connected to F&F. this story broke at the same time the ATS agent spilled the beans, I think it was the that very week..or the week before. Anyway, for some reason this guy did not lawyer up when he was accused of this. ( local media stated he did not have an attorney) The Governors AG and the Feds were trying to put a case together. it took them over a month to make the connections according to the investigative reporter. To top it off the sheriff was demanding the last $200.00 of his paycheck, yes he was still free as a bird during all this and still the sheriff. So my take on this is something was going down in the deal making department with the feds and the state not to mention along with the sheriff and mayor. The people down in Columbus ,NM are almost 100 percent sure this is connected. It's a small town word travels fast , not many secrets are kept.

What strikes me is the news here in NM was headlining this story when it broke. ( only small bits here and there for about a month) then you did not hear anything on the news what so ever. This story didn't even make the national news for a while. So a month goes by then the local news reports it again in more proper msm fashion with little details. But this time the national msm picks up the story. What you did not read or hear is on the msm story is the small bits and details of the story along with interviews by a very good investigative reporter. This sheriff and mayor have always been corrupt. they even sold residents of Columus stolen items from who know where including the mayor. I think Big screen Tv's was mention is that segment. Now from what I understand this gun running venture did not make them allot of cash from what the first small reports stated. ( that part not in the MSM) Then there is the gun shop owner who was free to go , charges where brought against him then dropped. ( just like the shop owner in Az. ) sound familiar ? This story keep changing I'm sure thats for a reason. The media here keeps making corrections to it like " we are here tonight with a further update and some input form the AG" then the story is slightly different" All these local stories were taken down off the net, some actually I think re-written twice . Some local stories you cannot find at all. Now the local media story is the same as the MSM story to the tee.

The residents of Columbus NM posted some information on local boards, some made very fact chilling statements. I do remember the statements of this local board , I mean anyone on ATS would remember reading stuff like this. I think was a rancher type board of respects , feed, grain. plowing etc.
-----------
Quotes:

The mayor or Eddie I think is his name the residents call him., "

"Eddie is corrupt, but there is no way he sold the amount of guns they said."

Then another person stated
"There is no way he could have. The gun shop has no where near that amount of guns to sell."
-------------
Think about the above statements there for a minute ATS'ers, kind of makes you think what is really going on down there.

This was a very interesting board to say the least.I can't find the board anymore or have the wrong bookmarks. I don't think this was some private venture that the mayor and sheriff were doing. There was also seven or eight others involved in the gun running in Columbus NM reported by the local media. ( names withheld by the local media of the others) but only 2-3 indictments. so where are the rest of these people? Who are they?

The media local media went as far as stating one of the un-named was an escaped convict. So why would the media not give a name a description of this person if they escaped from prison not mention a picture to help catch them? the media also stated the rest of the un-named other are from local gangs.

I forgot to mention this part. ( local NM board) someone on that board said in response to that specific news segment.

( Quote) " we have no gangs in Columbus, we are ranchers that live here"

The local news stations all had some good info on this story with all of them running some sort of min-series on this with ever changing information. The escaped convict 30 -45 segment update sold it for me as fake. So yeah, I say there is 50% percent chance this is connected to F&F

The story the OP posted, well looks like some facts have changed once again on Yahoo. The F-150 pick truck is true part. The rest I'm not to sure of. it seems like bits and pieces put together from different segments of the local news here before this went main stream. The informant stuff in the article is new to me. But the investigative reporter stated months ago that he sold guns to ATF informants and runners of the cartel. he was not a cartel informant himself that I recall from the story 2 months ago.

This part is new to me form yahoo.
"15 defendants ultimately arrested, 14 have pleaded guilty." ( so the Gun shop owner did get off) The not guilty person.

Ok . I know the local sheriff was involved , maybe other officers ? but how did they ever come up with 15 people? When this broke there was 8 people including the made up escape convict that the media said made it Mexico. ( escaped)
I think there is only 5-7 people on the local PD this includes the sheriff. Then the mayor and someones wife maybe some city counselor. unless the entire police department was involved? Come to think of it the ATF agent on the local news did mention that the entire police force was involved at one point since march. this gets stranger by the day. yeah, I know it 's an investigation and thats why the 15 people. Well it did start out with 3 people then went seven and 5 un-named now it's fifteen. Still this story has changed so many times I don't know what to believe, the local in Columbus, NM are more convinced this was parts of F&F

I never did find the local rancher board in Columbus NM. either the site is gone or I have a bad copy link. I get the 404 error now. it was working a month ago. what I posted is almost worded per word if not exact from that rancher board. It was just shocking too read it.

Yes, not surprising. Now that the greedy, slimy, 1 million mile long octopus tentacles of CIA-MSM doom have reached down and threatened the locals.

But I still see no evidence this was connected to F&F.
