I performed a few searches and didn't see this video posted directly (please handle accordingly if it has already been posted). The similarities of the scenario in this video to the current path of Irene and it's category are rather profound! Last time this occurred was in 1938 and the hit was not as direct as this one may be.

Whoa, I was just thinking of this today. After seeing the projected path of hurricane Irene. I had seen this episode of Mega Disasters a while ago, and it was exactly what popped into my head. So weird.

The video is using a 12 mile eyewall as the example. Isn't Irene 20 miles across right now?

This video is truly frightening. I wonder, if it's that bad in NY what will happen in Boston? Half the city is built on fill in, what was, boston Harbor. I have a friend who is a Park Ranger on the Harbor Islands (I suggest visiting, they are amazing and you can camp out there. Who knew?). I hope they tell him to stay hom this weekend.
I've thought we were due for a big hurricane for awhile now. i think most people forget just how bad it can be. we havent had a major storm like this since the early 1990's so many young people have no idea what we are in for.
i hope people use their brains and don't try to go out in this mess. Invariably there are those people that will try to go out and "expirience" the storm for themselves. I'm sure the news will show more than one surfer taking advantage of the huge waves. I pray that we don't see a huge loss of life.
I said it in my introduction thread but i have this knawing feeling in the back of my mind that, in addition to the hurricane we might get hit with another Earthquake. Their was talk that the one centered in Va. the other day was just a foreshock. If you couple these two natural disasters we could be in for some serious destruction.
I'm not one to "predict" things so take it with a grain of salt. Maybe i'm just nervous and it's manifesting itself that way. I hope i'm wrong (In fact, I'm sure I am.) but one never knows.
We'll see.
Stay safe everyone. (But please, don't be one of the idiots who go out and wipe the store shelves clean. We'll get through it. All your doing is giving the local news a funny story.)

The hurricane in the OP video was only 100 miles across. Hurricane Irene is 400 miles wide right now. i really hope this storm dissipates or goes off course.

Irene might be on the same path once it gets close to NYC but no way near that strong winds. Since it will weakend by brushing the cost, as long as the eye doesn't land on shore. The water surface temperature are cooler, and it will be the most a category one or a tropical storm the most. It won't be like what's on the video.

I think the problem will be the storm surges and flooding, not necessarily high winds. I hope this turns out to be nothing.

And I thought Chicago was the windy city, but then again, New York is full of hot air. Guess they needed a bit of rain to cool off the printing presses. Nothing like gallows humor right?
