The pilot project at Paris' Orly airport began last month, and has so far been met with a mix of amusement and surprise by travellers, who frequently try to touch and speak with the strikingly life-like video images that greet them and direct them to their boarding gate.
The images materialize seemingly out of thin air when a boarding agent — a real live human — presses a button to signal the start of boarding.
They are actually being rear-projected onto a human shaped silhouette made of Plexiglas. Three actual airport boarding agents were filmed in a studio to create the illusion, which the airport hopes will be more eye-catching and easier for passengers to understand than traditional electronic display terminals.

its stated purpose seems rather useless.
i think they are just trying to introduce new technology into a place where theres lots of people.
think of it as preliminary bluebeam.

I saw this online and thought it was actually really neat yet kind of creepy at the same time.
Sounds pretty cool to me but is that another lost job to technology? I love all this kind of technology but the more I see it the more I see how it affects jobs.
Do you think other airports will start this?
Where else could they use this kind of technology
Besides the cool factor what are your thoughts on it?

They look 2 dimensional or flat kind of, maybe it's just the angle. I have mixed feelings I guess, thinking on the one hand it is pretty cool and another advancement in technology, and on the other hand, will they start popping up everywhere for advertising/marketing efforts? It is strange that holographs have been around for 20+ years and they still have that quirky static or glitchiness.
My understanding is that holotech will surpass 3D technology and become the new medium for visual media.
Peace,

It's just a greeter. I didn't see where it said it was security.
