I saw this online and thought it was actually really neat yet kind of creepy at the same time.

The pilot project at Paris' Orly airport began last month, and has so far been met with a mix of amusement and surprise by travellers, who frequently try to touch and speak with the strikingly life-like video images that greet them and direct them to their boarding gate.

The images materialize seemingly out of thin air when a boarding agent — a real live human — presses a button to signal the start of boarding.

They are actually being rear-projected onto a human shaped silhouette made of Plexiglas. Three actual airport boarding agents were filmed in a studio to create the illusion, which the airport hopes will be more eye-catching and easier for passengers to understand than traditional electronic display terminals.

Sounds pretty cool to me but is that another lost job to technology? I love all this kind of technology but the more I see it the more I see how it affects jobs.

Do you think other airports will start this? Where else could they use this kind of technology?

Besides the cool factor what are your thoughts on it?

They look 2 dimensional or flat kind of, maybe it's just the angle. I have mixed feelings I guess, thinking on the one hand it is pretty cool and another advancement in technology, and on the other hand, will they start popping up everywhere for advertising/marketing efforts? It is strange that holographs have been around for 20+ years and they still have that quirky static or glitchiness.
My understanding is that holotech will surpass 3D technology and become the new medium for visual media.

Peace,
spec

I agree! They are cool but the creep factor and how they could be used would probably get out of control.

There is some movie, can't think of the name sorry, and it has things like this all throughout it. Its set in the future and advertising people like this are on street corners and in malls..It was weird but I could see that happening.

I would think they would have mastered 3d by now

What about those holograms in China I believe? Didn't they make an entire city over a river?

its stated purpose seems rather useless.

i think they are just trying to introduce new technology into a place where theres lots of people.

think of it as preliminary bluebeam.

Found this on teleprecense:

Telepresence Evangelist? Strange name, but this looks more natural and I could actually see some benefits to telepresence. Maybe this will provide virtual surrogates of ourselves, so that we can be 2 places at once.

The Japanese seemed to be taking the lead in the tech. Here is an example, even though it's animated, it looks 3 Dimensional.

Kind of bizarre to se an entire crowd cheering a hologram like that.

We should really stop looking for the conspiracies everywhere.

Enjoy in this incredible new technology.

Both those videos are very cool!

I like the first one. I could see the benefits of that in a meeting environment.

The second one is interesting and the Japanese seem to make lot of animation type things like this. Most things I see related to this kind of stuff is from Japan or China.

I think it's very cool and it was inevitable it would come about one day, it's advancement. Although I like advancement in technology it also hurts us. People seem to forget that

Its cool til someone loses a job.....

It's just a greeter. I didn't see where it said it was security.

Interesting stuff. I says the airport greeters are projected on Plexiglas, so I suppose it wouldn't be much different from a television or computer monitor.

I've seen the video of the Japanese performer before. I've never seen any explanations on how that was done. I wonder if it's the same thing. She seems to have more depth, though. More 3D than the greeters. Maybe it just looks that way on video.

If anyone knows about the technique the Japanese use, I'd be very interested.

I agree its neat, but if any hologram was to greet me and and send me on my way, well i would want it to be YODA saying, "board you must now thee".

Agreed. And we will continue to see more jobs lost to technology across every field.
I dont like it either, but i guess we call that progress.

But in saying that, how many times have we gone to a store only to be served by a human robot.

Do you think other airports will start this?

Yes i do, as i said this would be neat, especially if you had your favorite movie star or character greeting you.

Where else could they use this kind of technology

I see school teachers, supermarkets and lots more, but i really hope we never see them in the PILOTS seat.
.

Besides the cool factor what are your thoughts on it?

I think , just as you do that this will many take jobs off humans.
But whether we like it or not, i see it as our future.
And i really dont like that fact .

I'd say it has a lot to do with it being a projected image being filmed. It's usually caused by by a mix of refresh rate and film speed.

I think the movie you might be thinking of is Minority Report where the billboards would scan his retinas and display tailored advertisements for him.

I guess it'll be useful after when the depopulation agenda completes. When Nibiru returns and wipes out 90% of the human species.
