It's interesting. What has happened in Libya has also been happening in Syria, but unchallenged.

Because China and Russia will not allow a UNSC resolution which would allow any meaningful action, hence, NATO can do nothing without attracting the ire of those rather powerful friends of Assad.

Gaddafi had no friends, none that were willing to back him up that far anyway, so made a fatal mistake in not paying heed to the warnings about shooitng protesters.
