The Obamas Travel on His and Her Jets to Vacation

Mrs. Obama and her daughters arrived just before 2 pm Thursday on a U.S. government jet, according to the Martha’s Vineyard Times, which got its information from the local airport. The first lady’s office has been silent on her travel. President Obama arrived in the evening along with the family dog Bo.

The extra costs related to Mrs. Obama’s solo trip mainly include the flight on a specially designed military aircraft she took instead of Air Force One, as well as any extra staff and Secret Service that had to be enlisted to go with her. She would also have had her own motorcade from the airport to her vacation residence.

Mrs. Obama’s separate jet travel sends the wrong message on a host of issues, from global warming to the budget deficit to the economy – in which currently so many people can’t afford to take a vacation at all.

How nice, must be something to live like king and Queens and go on vacation once a month. "Let them eat cake" right. The obamas make me sick. Mrs. Obama tells us to only eat greens and tree bark yet she scarfs down a 1,700 cal burger. Mr. Obama tells us to be green and drives less as he and his wife take two different jets to there vacation home.

These guys live such double standerds and im tired off it!

Although I do not really care for Obama, why are so many people singling him out for things like this? Just look back to the past presidents and their families and you will find similar happenings. You don't even have to look back very far...Try Bush. I don't recall the Democrats making a huge deal out of his family's travel plans, because it is pointless to do so. The Republicans, in my opinion, spend more time throwing dirt on topics like this than Democrats...And no, I am not a Democrat, which I know is what you were thinking, lol. This was not directed to you OP, but to everyone.

This is appalling. Glad that as most of America struggles in this economy these two idiots can whisk off to Martha's Vineyard on separate planes, costing the taxpayers extra money. When will these two wake up and realize that the problems plaguing this country are real?

They disgust me so much! While over 2 Million Americans remain unemployed, he usurps his office, flaunts his insouciance toward his constituents, and becomes indignant when his accountability is questioned.

You are so off point! The main point is no matter what has been done in the past with so many presidents or other government employees spending money like it was water , this country can no longer afford this kind of (snip)!
I know that no matter who is the president, they have to have protection as well as their family but at this time of our history and this bad of an economy this just is wrong on so many levels. This also applies to all government employees no matter what position they hold. There is no reason that they could not have traveled together. This is the reason this country is in the shape it is in! This is the Change that you can believe in!

Everyone needs a break from high stress and the president is no different then anyone else, but how many vacations does one need in a year? Like Congress, how many breaks do they take a year? These jobs are like part-part-part time jobs but with "REALLY" good pay. If these folks just not take but one vacation for just one year look at the taxpayer money saved. The kind of change we need is for the government to change it's belt size and suck it up and be more like a miser and save save save money!

Who is advising Obama, and who "permitted" the "private government" jet to take off?

Its good to be Queen and King...but we don't have a Monarchy. Is there NO one in the 'inner circle' that could say "Mrs. Obama, AF1 will be flying in four hours, we're going to have to ask you to please wait."

Or is Mrs. O (Michelle Antoinette Obama-MAO in my book) such hell on designer heels that no one CAN say no to her?

Four hours of 'extra' vacay and the US taxpayer was charged what amount?

Either they don't give a damn OR they are just taking what they can WTF fashion.

When Obama racked up 61 vacation days since taking office, Bush had racked up 196 days at the same point in his presidency, and I'm pretty sure he never flew coach to get to Crawford, TX... But of course you all are going to be able to show the rest of us posts that show how upset you were with Dubya too, right? Oh wait, no you can't 'cuz you're all noobs... Somehow I have a feeling you didn't think a thing about it when it was one of your boys doing all the vacationing... The double standards here lately make me sick...

What you are missing is the hypocrisy in it all. Obama and co. have been telling us how we need to stop using so much oil and cut down our carbon foot print, etc. So for the second jet being needed, it wasn't it was wanted.

This is really the first thing I'd say is wasteful of the things I've read. Much of it is over the top, like when Obama goes on vacation people freak out. News flash: Presidents for decades have been going on vacations. Or like in the OP about Mrs. Obama saying to eat healthy then "scarfing" down a burger....hate to burst your bubble but even the healthiest eaters go out to eat every once in awhile for the most part.

I saw enough hypocrisy coming from the right side of the aisle during the debt debates... The statistics show that it is the Republicans who are responsible for a MAJORITY of the debt, yet they keep pointing at the Dems... 61 vacation days in over 2 and a half years on the world's most stressful job? I say go for it! A private in the Army gets 30 days a year... and they only extra cost is the fuel because all those peeps were gonna get paid the same amount whether they flew or not... Add to that the very short distance between DC and Martha's Vineyard (especially when compared to the distance between DC and Crawford, TX)... It's just more partisan bickering and I for one am sick to death of it... You wanna change things, THEN STOP SUPPORTING EITHER SIDE OF THIS TWISTED EQUATION! I'm sure your Congressman and Senators DO NOT fly coach!

Cut the pay, benefits, and LAVISH SPENDING of these BUMS in office. WE THE PEOPLE have had ENOUGH already!!!!!!!

Eliminate the Bush TAX-HOLIDAY for the wealthy, and cut the Politicians ROCK-STAR LAVISH pay and benefits NOW!!!!!!

People are still missing the point. It doesn't matter how many days Bush spent on vacation or that other presidents did the same thing. That like the little sibling screaming "but dad, billy got to do it". We are effing broke people. All presidents have been bashed for something while others did not. This about wasteful spending of our money. I can care less if he says we all need to sacrifice. I've learn to ignore much of what he says now but the spending is what really has me pissed. People are quick to jump on the super rich while others go without but its their money. He is wasting taxpayer money and turns around and would raise taxes if he could do it. The president should have the proper security but he shouldn't be going on vacation with it costing as much as it does. Now if he wants to pay the cost for fuel and security out of his own pocket then he can do whatever the hell he wants. I can't tell you the last time i could afford to go on vacation. Hell he's most likely only got a little more than a year left in office. He can go on all kinds of vacations then.
