The statements he made were voluntary according to the article.

The fact that something is stated in an article, does not automatically make it the entire honest truth.

The tactics used are valid and legal. Interrogation techniques used here in the states revolve around not crossing the line from interogative questions to coercian / intimidation etc.

The official guidelines provided to law enforcement, that directly state the allowable tactics and interrogation techniques, are valid and legal.

However, unless you were there, it is not possible for you to know:
  • if those guidelines were followed.
  • exactly which tactics were used.
  • the manner in which they were used.

I am assuming your encounter occured in the United States
    Correct.

The oficer yelling at you is not illegal at all.
    I never said it was.

    Were you placed in handcuffs?
    No.

Were you told you were being detained?
Where you told you could not leave?
Not with those exact words, but those points can easily be conveyed with certain actions.

    Such as:
  • Placing his hands on my shoulders.
  • Slamming my back against the side of the car.
  • Telling me not to move.

Did the officer ask you guilt seeking questions or did he just pretty much yell at you the entire time?
He continued telling me that he knew I was guilty. He continued saying that they had found evidence that proved my guilt. Everything that he was saying, was stated as a fact, because he knew I was guilty. (or so he thought)

I have no doubts at all, about myself appearing guilty.
I am sure it looked as if I was, but I was not.

Also, with due respect, please dont stereotype all law enforcement. I am saying this based off your response to your experience you gave us. If you did not intend to stereotyp[e then my bad..
Not sure what caused you to reach this conclusion.

  • Maybe I should have included the word 'some,' in this ↓ statement.
~~"An example of how some cops try to manipulate a confession"

  • I did not feel that was necessary since I had already previously stated that,
    within this ↓ statement.
~~"It often seems that some of them, are more concerned with getting a confession, than actually finding the true criminal."

please dont stereotype all law enforcement.

I feel that you should take your own advice.

To you: It may appear as if I think all cops are bad.

To me: It appears that you believe all cops are good (just as you are/were).

Just for the record: Other than the particular incident that I used in my example, that particular sheriff is one that I have always respected (before and after) that particular incident.

When Depp and other celebrities got three men excused from their prison sentences for murdering 3 young boys, I did not know all the facts and assumed Depp had done a "good" deed. Listen to these videos and learn the truth about the murders of these boys and their killers. Chilling......
