Is it just me, or does the cliff face look to be too steep of an angle to hold snow formations in that size for very long?

Also, first pic looks shop'd to me, the lower object/formation appears to be cut/pasted over the higher object.

The cliff does look that way.I was just going to post saying that.Though ice caps can cling to anything.Be it straight down or at an angle.Being that I have had many ski trips to Mammoth,you see this all the time.Im sure if you do a search you will find many images that show snow/ice doing the same thing.
Im gonna go with the ice theory for now unless more images can be produced.

where did you get those pictures in the first place?

snopes.com is a good place to identify pictures, put them on the board there maybe someone overthere can identify these interresting pics.

Looks to me like a large ice sheet on the side of a mountain - assuming it's not photoshopped. The straight lines are either a result of poor digitization - these pics look rather old. That, or the cliff could have a ledge there, which would create the impression of a linear edge.
