Ok, so I'm cruising the net looking for a book that I have been looking for years and still can't find. Don't know the author or title but I remember some of the content. Every so often I try doing a search using a loose description of a chapter I remember...so far no luck.

But today I found this quite by accident and found it amusing. Those here that know me understand my twisted sense of humor and for those that don't...here it is.

This is a small book that was published as satire in 1970 by Whitney Darrow (New York Times Cartoonist) who has passed. Here is his obituary:

Whitney Darrow Jr., 89, Gentle Satirist of Modern Life, Dies
www.nytimes.com...

Mr. Darrow, one of the last of the early New Yorker cartoonists -- a group that included Charles Addams, James Thurber, Peter Arno, George Price and Mary Petty -- published more than 1,500 cartoons in the magazine from 1933 to 1982. He was considered a master draftsman and, in contrast to some of his colleagues, he wrote his own captions.

The pages were scanned and placed here on a personal blog where I found them. Here is what the blogger had to say:
michiedo.blogspot.com...

It is very much out of print, but if you want your own copy, you can purchase a used copy on Amazon for $300. It's kind of funny because half of the reviews there like "THIS DESERVES ZERO STARS!!!! WORST BOOK EVER!!!!" and half are like "5 stars. We've come so far..."

Here is what it is now selling for on Amazon:
www.amazon.com...=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1313644610&sr=8-2

1 used from $2,475.00 1 collectible from $295.00

I found this amusing to say the least. I grew up in these times when we had certain specific gender roles and they just weren't questioned. How times have changed!

My thoughts? Yes we had to move on and up towards equality of the sexes. No argument there. But have we gone too far? Are we even that different anymore? I know it might bring a little flack and honestly I don't care but I miss the times when men dressed like men and women dressed like women. Where men were men and women were women.

Sometimes....I just shake my head when I think of the old saying "Be careful what you wish for" because although we are in a time of equality, the scales that were beginning to balance out are now tipping the other way to...?

Have we gone too far in the name of Political Correctness? Tough question to answer and definitely one with a never ending bag of opinions and arguments.

Anyway, this is just for fun and nothing else...enjoy!

We haven't came far at all, in fact it's worse. No it's not completely in your face like that, but the media clearly defines the "role" of the man and women. It's not just that but the sexual exploiton on everybody, especially children.

While I am far from being a feminist, I did find the careers part a little insulting. I had to laugh about the boys fix things and girls enjoy things the boy fixes part. I have always been the one to fix everything. Boys just don't know how to fix things anymore. At least all the men I have dated anyways. When my dishwasher broke, I got online and learned how to fix it myself. Most men I know would say, "Just call the repair man." Didn't that used to be the woman's line?

After looking at your headline I was convinced that I was about to read that you were confessing to hermaphroditism. Oh well, just another disappointment. (Sorry for the short, off-topic post.)

Women now fix those things because they got sick and tired of waiting for a man to do it.

I find that women pay more attention to the details of a repair as well.

"We need each other"

I have to agree that was the best line ever. There is no real reason to change what the story says, or for anyone to be offended. In fact many of the things from this book are very much in play.

I think that now "girls" know that they have the option to be who they want to be, and some choose to be career oriented, and others mothers, and more than half the time are both.

We do in fact need each other, no matter how much people want to make is wrong, its always been that way and always will be.

Peace, NRE.
