Missing eye Need Advice Please.

Hi first to the adim and mods please dont delite this I have a realy bad problem and am hoping that with 50,000 people here to be able to get advice on what to do.
Ok to anyone who reads this heres the problem .
Two years agaio as of september 22 I had a knife stabed into my right eye.
This caused massive cornia and lenses injury .But the retania was undamanged . So after 9 months of healing up the doctor told me they could try and do a cornia transplant and put in a plastice lenes.
So I asked the doctor the worse case happens and he say you will just not be able to see out of your eye if you reject the cornia. So I asked if it would cause any long term pain . And he says No way no how even after I pushed the question manny times.
The out come was worse MUCH MUCH worse then he said could possibly happen .I rejcted the cornia I rejected the stiches holding in the cornia and it seams that the plastice lenes is even causing pain.
O yes Pain I can tell you all about pain for two years I have been in pain everyday all the time .
Think of the worse pain you ever had and immange having it almost constintly for two years .Worse yet im highly elergic to Pain killers.
For me much causion is needed in using pain killers or the will realy do the kill part. Even get a bad reaction to some over the counter pain killers.
Anyway on to the point of my post I am now at the point were I just cant stand the pain any longer and have been scerisly thinking of having the eye taken out compleatly.
I have asked the docter about this and he says it would get rid of the pain and a fake eye would cause NO pain .But i no longer trust him because every one I have found who has had cornia transplants has had long term pain even if sucesfull.
So Im asking you any one out the who may know a person missing an eye or if you have goin through this . If I get this eye removed how long will there be pain and how bad ?
Please I implor you to send me a messege with any info the long term effects of having a fake eye.

I'm very sorry to hear of your pain and misfortune friend. You say you body rejects pain killers..I would seriously reccomend trying ingesting or smoking pot, seriously. If you cannot cure your pain then it is a good, natural option that will ease the pain at least to some degree and relax you.

I'm sorry I can't give you more advice about your eye, but if you cannot cure the pain then i would seriously try what I have said.

As im also highly elergic to it as well. I tryed it once the cheepest home grown stuff you ever want to see probly wouldent give most smokers a high but put me in bed for a week I got so sick .Off once a copple tokes .

That is strange. Ingesting with food instead of smoking will give a longer and often more sedating experience, but it may still help your problems. Are there no substances you can use to alleviate your pain at all?

Oh this is terrible. That just sounds awful. I don't have any advice other than see another doctor for advice.

I can't tell from what you've written, but are you saying you could see after the accident but now you can't after the surgery? Or is it that you can, but the pain is so great you're considering the fake eye?

I'm eye phobic myself. I wouldn't even do lasik. People I know that have tried it complain all the time about horrbile dry eye.

I can use two at the most two Pain medications a day at most and usaly have to reduce to one twice a week any more then that and i get sick.
I can also take up 6 off the shelf brands of pain killer a day but again its for bery short duration as even they will build up making me sick.
I have been put on ten different perscriptions of pain killer and all do the same thing . even the surjery its self was a great danger to me .
The surgens accutaly call my wife into surgury to try and bring me out of
anistiza. And you should relize they never do that unless there worred about the patchent dying.
The only solution I mite have to get rid of the pain is to get ride of the eye. But I Would like to find out befor hand if this will work.

I had an uncle with one eye.

He was injured in the Korean War. He had his eye removed and once back to the states, he got a "glass eye".

I remember when I was a teenager, we was asking him about it, he said it didn't hurt. It only took some getting used to at first, after about a month, it was just like nothing had happened, except for only seeing out of one eye.

I only see out of one eye myself. My right eye is the one I use, just had to get glasses 2 years ago for that eye, one prescription lense one clear lense, my bad eye can't be fixed. It's called (sp) Ambliophia or something like that, didn't even know about it until i was 16 and wanted to get a drivers license, couldn't pass the eye exam. Went to the eye doc and there it is... could have been corrected if noticed when I was born, but the doctor didn't notice it.

It's when the pupil ( I think ) is just off center enough to affect the vision... they put a patch on the good eye, and the bad one would have corrected itself.. but again they didn't see it.

The way it looks I have no other allturntive anyway .Its eather take out the eye or live with pain the rest of my life.

I would first say that your unfortunate circumstance gives me pause, condolences are certainly in order, and I hope that you find speedy relief to your current affliction. That being said, I must admonish you in the gentlest terms, a discussion board is not the venue for medical advice. I would ask that you pursue a different course, a second opinion by a physician in no way affiliated with your current physician would be a good start. Educating yourself is imperative, the internet is a start, but once you have the basics (terminology, and what course of action you desire), followed by a trip to a medical library (local university, or ask your doctor to provide you with clinical expositions), will make an informed decision possible.

That being said, I will provide this as an alternative that I have had experience with:

Ocular prosthetics.

There is a wonderful non profit organization based in NYC called The Eye Bank for Sight Restoration. Get in contact with them, they will be able to help you.

I may not have an advice for the eye problem but I can tell you about pain, I was with pain for 3 years until finally after several doctors the problem was found and fix I am still in physical therapy after two surgeries in one year.

But in my case I became used to the pain, painkillers did nothing for me. I was put on neurontin and now I found out is a law suit against it for causing death; well I survived the drug anyway.

I guess if the problem with your eye is still there and not improvement you have to ask yourself how you will feel about removing your eye, it should be a choice your choice, after being in pain myself for years I did not care what they took of my body or cut off as long as the pain will go away.
(Thankfully nothing was removed just repaired.) I still have to get used of no having pain now

Thanks for all your advice everone it doesent look good one of thoes links say something about the body being able to reject the fake eye and if thats true theres no way im chancing it as my rejection problem is so acute that if any one can reject the fake eye it will be me bummer.
But on the lighter side in the last week the pain has accutly started to lessen on its own and I am starting to hope the mabby it will finly subside on its own . also other people I have talked to took up to and more then a year to finly be out of pain so mabby it will stop .
I can live just fine with one eye if the bad eye isent causing problems.
So am going to hold out another month to see if the pain continus to lessen.
I sure dont want to risk creating an even bigger problem unless I have no other choice.

Your body cannot reject a fake eye. It only rejects things of a biological manner. Actress Sandy Duncan has a glass eye. She lost hers, I think in the 70s or early 80s in a care accident and I never ever knew it was fake until someone mentioned it to me. They are SOOOO well made and so life-like you would not notice. I believe they can remain inside the eye socket all the time (no taking in or out, except for cleanings now and then by a professional?) I am not sure how those are inserted exactly...

About being allergic to pain meds and, any kind of related substance.. yeah, there are some people like that.
Before you jump to a decision... wait a while... check with some homeopathic doctors, or therapists and see what they may suggest. Might be something out there that could work.

Whatever you do, don't go taking any of those strong OxyContin-like meds.. that #e will mess you up bigtime and the addiction is literal hell. I know people close to me that have gone down that route.

In the next 5-10 years I am sure there will be new medical breakthroughs to offer more alternatives to such eye injuries.
But, the pain, you say, is too much to bear and I understand...

Just do not limit yourself to one or two doctors... Go around.. check with a bunch, even online here... I have a bad view on people in the medical profession nowadays and have had badluck and there seems to be very idiotic ones working in the field... so be careful. I am sure there are some good ones out there that may help.

My Wife has only one eye, the other is like a big contact lense and she has do discomfort at all. She has had it 13 years. This seems the best path for you.

This is just my opinion but if I was in constant pain i would get it removed. I would rather live withg out depth perceptioon than pain

It sounds like you are going to be in for some pain regardless of whichever way you go. You may want to get another opinion if you are fed up with your doctor--if I were you, I would got to one of the hospitals that specialize in opthamology or that have good opthamology programs where a team of doctors will review your case and come up with a course of treatment. I have included the list of top opthamology hospitals (see below) in the U.S. according to the 2004 U.S. News & World Report Survey--hopefully one is near you. If not, go to www.newyorkmetro.com... , which is the Castle-Connolly searchable database of America's Top Doctors, where you can search by specialty and location.

You also need an alternative pain management solution, which is another reason why a team approach might yield a better solution. I'm not sure what the nature of your allergy is, but there are tons of new pain treatments available. I suffer from severe migraines and none of the traditional courses of therapy worked for me. After five years of blackouts and ear-splitting headaches, I finally found a neurologist that off-label prescriped an epilepsy drug that worked wonders. Botox injections are being used for pain management, also. You might consider seeing a doctor that specializes just in pain treatment as well.

I am very sorry to hear about your missfortune. I found a site that may be of some interest. It sounds like the only pain would be from a prosthetic that fit incorrectly. im no medical doctor of any shape form of fashion..but i would have to say..if the eye dont work anymore...and its giving you pain cuz its still attached to you...just get the glass eye..it would seem like the logical choice..no?


and if the pain is anything like a double hernia...or 16 kidney stones floating around in your kidney that decide to pop out at a rate of nearly once every week...i feel for you man..i really really feel for you
