A huge rock in a village of Al-Hassa region, SAUDI ARABIA raises 11 cms from the ground level once in a year during the month of April and stays elevated for about 30 minutes!!!

They say that 17 years ago, one Mujahid was shot dead behind this rock as he was hidden there. This encounter happened in the month of April 1989. You can see the fresh blood stains on the rock. Most surprisingly, when the rock raises from the ground, these stains become darker, fresher and wet. Local residents tried to wipe off the stains several times, but after some time it appears again on the rock automatically...

I have found quite a bit of discussion surrounding this rock and whether this story is true or not. All I hear is a bunch of people talking and no definitive answers though.

Either way it is an interesting story and a cool picture. Yes, it could be faked, but anything nowadays could be faked.

Anyways, I'm excited to see other opinions.

Any thoughts?

Can anyone make me an avatar with this floating rock, with the quote "I want to Believe"

Seriously.

I think I can answer this question. No, it's not true. Do I have proof? Nope. I'm just not stupid.

Hi predator0187, I found this vid and I think its fake.

But I cant confirm the vid.

Here some more info:

Detailed Analysis
This image, which supposedly depicts a miraculous floating rock found in a village in Saudi Arabia, has been circulating via email, blogs and online forums for several years. According to the message, the rock began floating back in April 1989 after a terrorist who was hiding behind the rock was shot dead. The message claims that every April since, the rock has again floated above the ground for around 30 minutes and that apparent blood stains on the rocks surface become "darker, fresher and wet" during the annual flotation.

However, this so called "surprising rock" is not actually very surprising at all. The "astounding" floating rock is in fact the result of some fairly rudimentary digital manipulation rather than any sort of miracle or supernatural event.

In real life, the large rock featured in the altered picture is held up by several natural rock supports, the result of the natural process of erosion. The rock perches atop these supports, rather than sitting flush to the ground. Thus, to make it appear that the rock is floating, all the canny prankster needed to do was remove the stone supports from the photograph, a relatively simple procedure when using an image editing program such as Adobe Photoshop. According to an article about the fake picture on the alhabib website, the original rock can be found in the Al Ahsa (or Al Hasa) area in Saudi Arabia, a region noted for its eroded and strangely shaped rock outcrops.

Other shots of the same rock taken from different angles, clearly show how the rock is really held up. Although, at first glance, the rock in the photograph below may look a little different than the "floating" rock above because it is taken from a different angle, a closer examination reveals that it is one and the same. The rougher textured cleft area is clearly the same in both images, as is the round stain or indentation at the base of the cleft along with the supposed "blood stain"on the rock surface.

Magnets make things "float" all the time, how do we know it is not a similar situation?

The man who build the Coral Castle in Florida was moving bigger rocks by himself, how do we know this is not just a natural occurrence of what he was doing?

Not saying this is 100% true, just keeping an open mind.

Because it would float all the time if that was the case, wouldn't it? I have an open mind, but I close it to stupidity.

Star for you for the Coral Castle reference. Just how DID that little guy build with blocks that huge???

All in the name of love? It takes more than love to move blocks that massive. Elaborate pulley system?

The first time it floated was right before the terrorist was shot

The story would be more believeable if it did not include a ghost who lifts a rock once a year or blood that doesn't want to go away.
I think people believe to much.

Is that a blood stain on the left of the rock?

Edit: Oh... "darker, fresher and wet" too huh?

Real or not, how does that have any bearing on the validty of an entire religion? For real dude....just a horrible statement.

Now to address the OP, this is a good find, but it has been moved to the hax bin already, I think that answers our question. Being moved to the bin so fast, I wonder if this has been covered before? Must take a look.

I personally couldn't find anything that proved this was a hoax. Apparently ATS staff knows something they are not telling us as this has been moved to the hoax bin with out any sort of proper dissection.

I wish they would give us some information as how they 'know' this is a hoax, because I would really like to know. I'm not saying I thnk it's real but I would like see why they think it's a hoax.

Looking at the link above to the hoaxslayer website, it is easy to see that this is a digitally manipulated photo. With that being said I definetly second this notion. i recall posting sometime in the past regarding this exact issue, and staff chimed in and stated that normally the thread would be notified of why it was moved. I think in this case it may be a little more clear than other cases, perhaps that is why...
