55 year old Homeless Man carries 2 Masters Degrees

Living in Brooklyn, i have talked to my fair share of Homeless people. Most just cruise the subways or hold the doors and shake a cup. I remember one time, a guy came on with a book bag and opens it up and says he use to be homeless, so he goes around passing out soap, sandwiches, shirts, socks, hats (it was cold at that time) gloves. And was just asking so he could buy more things for them.
I have also heard that for most homeless it is by choice here in nyc. That people who are homeless for more then a year they have found it is by choice, choosing the freedom of begging then the mundane of working.
That being said, i never heard of a story like this guys. It is a sad and honorable story. Hope he turns out like the Voice over guy from Ohio, whatchya think?

well thats pretty heart breaking and you know what i saw here in Toronto? a Homeless guy in front of Wall mart that went spine chilling throw my whole body when i saw him begging people.

It's sad seeing this.

I had a 54 year old gent walk into my office yesterday begging for me to help him find a job...
he's been out of work since the first of the year. unemployment benefits expired... if he doesn't go back to work in the next couple of weeks the bank if gonna take his home.... yeah its bad all over and getting worse.... as for that man that came into my office... I helped him apply to the army munitions plant that's not supposed to be up and running again, but is.. keeping my fingers crossed for him

I could see shame and defeat in his eyes, I kept watching his eyes. I know first hand, that feeling defeated (even for awhile, it's not permanent) and ashamed, like you are an invisible tumbleweed, well, it really morphs you physically, it effects the way I carry myself, talk, behave, move my eyes.

I will agree, it is bad. But i am a musician, so for us, it is always this way haha. Never getting paid and always spending money for what i consider interviews, our shows. And if you go around asking what we are doing for money, you will find new and interesting ways. One friend spent $100 buying cleaning products and a wetvac to start his own at home car detail. makes 120 a car and does about 6 a week. Take 3 hours of hard work but that coupled with working as a waiter pays his bills and allows him to play music. Or the age old busking in subways. You got some catchy tunes, you can make 60 an hour down there. but its a crap shoot and the best spots are hard to snag. Me personally, i do free lance hand man type jobs. Sheet rock, tiles, building loft beds, walls all sorts of stuff. Just your basic build ideas. All i have is about $90 worth of tools and they work just fine. I pay a guy with a van that waits out side home depot to get the materials as not many have cars.
So yes, it is hard, but i think people can't get over their own ego to work the low jobs, but that will at least give you a home and food, which is more then most can say. that coming from a 23 year old who didn't workin the booming 2000's

having a degree doesnt automatically mean you can handle your life...

but sure its sad...if a person with 2 master degrees cannot find a job - who can?

maybe now you see the point when people start looting/revoluting/vandalizing because they know and feel that as a third generation poor being without any high education your chance for wealth is zero...

One thing a degree reinforced in me was the importance of integrity to the scientific method if it is to work. When I see the state of the world and how it is lacking in this important attribute throughout many of the important social functions it is heart breaking. I have no desire to support such contempt in its current state.

In my area of South Africa almost 90% of the black people I deal with on a daily basis are immigrants and refugees. Most are from Zimbabwe or the Congo, and there's a whole Somalian district.

Most of the contact one has is when they work as a "car-watch" or parking attendant, or they beg and sell cheap Chinese goods at the traffic lights.
To think, I learnt local isiXhosa in school, yet now my mom's French is more of a conversational language!

Then you ask these people who watch your car and wave them out of parking bays (glorified beggars really) what they studied.

Invariably they were teachers, professors, doctors, agriculture majors, even engineers.
Our country has a major skills shortage.
Yet, here these people beg as parking attendants, or are waiters.
The local blacks are very xenophobic (they've been known to burn foreigners alive in the streets), and the black police harass foreign blacks for bribes constantly.
The red tape to use their qualifications is impossible.
And then you hear of what their black rulers did to their countries after independence - horrifying.
So we have people with degrees as parking attendants.
Thousands and thousands of them from all across Africa.
Most of them (especially from Zimbabwe) speak good English.
Yet we have a skills shortage!
Something is very wrong.

Hopefully people will start to realize that if you're not a trust fund baby or don't know how to suck in wealth like cunning business people, you really should live below your means your whole life. There's more to life than material wealth and traveling. How's that vacation to France you took 5 years ago, when times were good? Was it worth it?

This is a trend that began in Corporate America many years ago.

The culling of the herd.

If you didn't recognize this trend and made plans to adapt then you ended up as this guy has.

Obsolete and priced out of the Market. Another casualty of the high tech boom.

Its the basic laws of Economics called Supply of Demand.

A degree may open many doors for you when Jobs are abundant, but they also close many doors when jobs are few under the guise of "Over Qualification".

Which essentially means that they don't want to pay you for your degrees and experience and/or what you're actually worth ......because they can. For There's too many applicants for too few jobs.

Companies are reducing their overhead by laying of those that are approaching retirement age and hiring less experienced tech professionals for considerably less.

This has been planned for sometime now. In this book, Behold a Pale Horse..Bill Cooper explains this economic cycle and many other aspects of what is occurring economically in our world today.

It is time for a paradigm shift. The days of lifelong employment are long gone.

I read Bill Cooper's book, and it is stunningly.....prophetic. I've been a tag-along in the ufology field for a length, and some of them had their 'sensibilities' offended by Cooper's drinking, and then spouting what he -really- thought. Agendized snobs just HATE that sort of thing, it makes'em nuts.

The money markets, following the economic fallout of 2008, have shown we need to become less homo economicus and more homo moralitas. "Peasants do not borrow money for production; rather, they are compelled to incur debt because of some exigency (Lang 1985, 99). Thus one should not profit from the extreme need or misfortune of a neighbor, and one should not exacerbate the borrower's economic plight by imposing additional obligations." (Barrera 2005, 51). As a corrective measure a step in the right direction would be to enact something like the Jubilee law or shemittah. "Mesopotamian rulers decree[d] debt remission when a large part of the population is so saddled with excessive indebtedness to the point where the economy grinds to a halt (Lohfink 1986, 224)." We're well beyond that point.

I have a hard time watching videos like these. It breaks my heart to know that people who are actually trying to do good in this world can turn out like that, even for a brief period. Anytime someone thinks homeless they think, drugs, alcohol, non educated, so untrue. There are some homeless people who would sacrifice a whole lot more then I would be willing to for friends and family, as sad as that is.

There is something very incredibly ironic in that the people in the park are screaming about the "end of the world" and that Maurice Nomad should be interviewed on that day!

I am not too sure, but are these sort of "end of the world" gatherings typical of larger cities?
