Other than it being exclusive to Denver, I find nothing on the website that suggests irrational suspicion.

The items mentioned in the OP were only deemed suspicious if purchased in bulk

It also mentions to be suspicious of those that demonstrate interest in uses that do not seem consistent with the intended use of the item purchased

those that make racist or extreme religious statements coupled with comments that are violent or appear to condone violence

as well as side noting that - "It is important to remember that just because someone's speech, actions, beliefs, appearance, or way of life is different; it does not mean that he or she is suspicious"
Seems rational to me.

I think it is just a way of getting a community more aware of ways to prevent negligence on providing those with possibly some real intent to commit a terrorist act.

While it's easy enough to let our paranoid imaginations run berserk with this leaflet, it is far more profitable to de-construct it and see who the FBI has been profiling.

Notice that a couple of items (the ones that aren't particularly offensive to posters on this thread) are the most telling of all:
-strange odors and stains on clothing.
-evidence of injuries or burns to hands and face
-attempts to alter appearance with each visit.

That is not your garden-variety survivalist.

It's a bomb maker. pure and simple.

I suggest to you that the rest of the items on that list were added to "pad out the resume" and accomplish two goals:

1. Freak out the local shop owner enough that they notice and question everything unusual.

2. Throw you off balance, and get you to focus on a possible threat to your own liberties, instead of the obvious implication:

Bomb-maker(s) in the Denver area, but the FBI has no other solid leads.....

Sleep tight, fellow paranoids.



Edit to add, The "extreme religious statements" was put on there so they can't be accused of racial profiling. The business about theology seems to imply a Christian militant (given Denver's demographics); yet the flyer itself would otherwise make it inhospitable for a person with a Middle Eastern complexion and missing fingers to buy military surplus. Something makes me think that such is the genuine target of this flyer. Christian conservatives at a surplus store would hardly be surprising. But after this flyer, persons of seeming Arab descent will find a much colder environment, and get peppered with a lot of loaded questions without the FBI's direct involvement.

So buying MREs is considered to be suspicious behavior now? Good to know!

They cram emergency preparedness down our throats and then call us survival-terrorists for doing just that.

Talk about a mind-job.

This is so wrong, but I am not surprised.
I would tell them the same things I tell my kids. (kids can have big mouths when bragging to friends, ya know) I generally tell my kids, "Well you never know when we might have a sever natural disaster, or our country is attacked from the outside or we have to defend ourselves against rioters." (good one to use with the U.K. riots going on.

As for paying with cash, if they refuse to accept it, and try to check my i.d. I might try and turn it around on that that I think they are potential identity thieves and that I need to report them to the police.

Denver does seem to be the locus of some odd activity - this FBI flier, military activity on highways, etc.
We haven't had a false flag operation in the midwest since the OKC bombing.
They certainly want to demonize militias in the worst kind of way, my suspicion if they did a false flag would be a bombing tied to a militia group.
Wait n' see is all we can do.

If you notice on the right hand column, the FBI duly notes that none of these activities in and of itself represents suspicious activity. They were probably thinking about the same concerns you were. Personally, my family does more and more purchases in cash; if you write a check, there's no telling how long the retailer will hold it before submitting it to your bank. We've had someone submit a check 4 MONTHS after I wrote it. Nearly over-drew us. So we do cash as much as possible. Especially when it's one of my hobbies.

When I was a LEO, one of the saddest things was working an investigation, and how many times you heard the same thing; not the "he was such a quiet guy" b.s. the media always hypes---just the opposite. You interview witness, and have the heartache of them admitting "if we had only called the cops, he looked so crazy to us--but we didn't want to get into trouble....."

Y'know, sometime you & I could probably have a productive discussion on that topic. I was on duty when OKC exploded. I watched the FBI and other reports that came over the wire. Personally, I am convinced that the FBI was not privy to whatever was done at the Murrah building. The reason I say that is, their demeanor (which had been very haughty and imperious beforehand, when dealing with non-federal offices), changed the next day. They started acting like civilian LEOs: introducing themselves, inviting you in to their investigations and explaining just why they needed access to evidence or a witness. Where it had been "We're the FBI, we'll handle this," it suddenly became, "I'm agent Jones of the F.I.B., we're working this crime in your jurisdiction, and with your help we can get justice for the victims." The difference was night and day.

That said, I also saw the first dispatches from their HQ, looking for two anglos and a person of Hispanic or Middle Eastern descent. They claimed McVeigh as one and Nichols eventually as the other perp. But after that first day, we never heard again anything about a third person of interest. As I recall, OSBI and FBI tried to make it that the third was a poor description of Nichols; but he wasn't even on the scene, according to the official story line.

I'll tell you something else as well. The OSBI team, sifting through the wreckage outside the federal facility, found a foot in a military boot; according to some reports, the leg was wearing camouflage clothing. That foot was never connected to any missing person, and never mentioned in the press.

And then here's a fourth thing. If you park a rental truck full of ANFO in front of a tall building, your radius of debris will need to point away from the truck. If you find the axle of the truck a block away from truck, but it has building debris associated with it, then paranoid people with think that the bomb was inside the building all along and that the original blast was located there and merely detonated the van as the expanding shockwave reached it....

Agreed. I only went to 2 militia meetings, but they were just like the leftist meetings back when I was a college student. There was always one guy in the back, who wanted us to bring a gun to a demonstration, who wanted to bring drugs to a protest, and who started shouting obscenities at the crowd. It was always a guy that no one else knew very well, and he was always the biggest gun nut of the entire day. Back when I was a leftist, he was the guy who was sick the day everything went wrong. Like Paulie Gatto in the Godfather. you know what i'm saying; "leave the gun, take the cannoli."

Anyway, the Murrah building is practically ancient history these days. Personally, and I know you won't agree with this, I think the government has been editing OUT the presence of a particular ethnicity, because we "aren't fighting Islam." But I saw reports of a middle eastern person at OKC. There were reports from fishermen that TWA 800 was shot down by a surface to air missle, and that ME men had rented a boat to go fishing in the general area that day....

Anyway, guess I have a lot of steam about those things I haven't needed to vent in a while.
