I know there are threads on this already, but I thought I'd try and make an all-inclusive thread about one of the most engrossing and just plain
awesome games of this year.
I have experienced a massive slowing in time because of the wait for this game. It's initial release date was known as 26/08/2011. That's my birthday.
I almost considered this a sign, though I don't see signs as much as I see coincidences.
(Like Mel gibson says in the movie, Signs. You know?"" )
The more I have seen of this game, the more it has shown It is exactly what I've been waiting for.
It's release dates are 23rd of august in the U.S. 25th in Oz and the 26th in Europe. I have been waiting on an rpg to match and hopefully surpass
such giants as Fallout 3, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Mass Effect 1 & 2....
Yes I have played and earned all achievments for Fallout New Vegas, but It just didn't seem to grab my attention for as long as FO3 did. I have also
played Final fantasy XIII. Which was a good game, as long as you didn't think of It as being Final Fantasy, which, to me wasn't. That's the reason why
I have such high hopes for this game.
Anyway, back to the point of this, here is a stack of info to prepare you for the release of this sure to be fantastic game.
You play as Adam Jensen. An Ex Swat member who is employed as security at a human augmentation laboratory. There is an attack by what appears to be
special ops on the facility you are tasked with protecting which leaves you badly wounded. You are saved by being cybernetically augmented by your
employer, for the purpose of finding out who was behind the attacks. But things aren't as simple as they seem.
First we have the fictional website for a human augmentation company in the game world, known as; Sarif Industries. Initally, this was a website about
the company and It's history, but about a month ago It was "hacked" by an anti-augmentation group known as Purity First. Which is why It seems all
screwy. But if you'd seen the site before It is really cool to go back and see the messages left by the "Activists".
Have any of you heard of Vigilant Citizen?
He wrote an article about this game claiming It was promoting trans-humanism. Which then led to every man, woman and their dog decrying video games as
a whole as being evil, yada yada.
I posted a response on that page, search for the words: A Gamer.(though It's not a response to VC, but to a post about video game violence.)
Now I Initially thought that It may have actually been doing just that(I personally, if given the choice, would augment myself.), but as time has
passed It's been shown to be anything but. There are activist groups promoting human purity. It's not just something that has been accepted by
everyone. It is in fact a very tumultuous time, people who can no longer afford to by a drug that stops their body from rejecting their cybernetic
augmentaions are on the street, begging. These used to be very wealthy people, as augmentation is an expensive thing.
The first trailer depicts the main character, Adam Jensen, as Icarus essenitally. Here is a wonderful interview with the games art director Jonathan
Jacques-BelletĂȘte that explains more about the Icarus concept. And more.
30 to 40 hours. But Jonathan the art director claimed that there was heaps that had to be cut from the game, so much that apparently it was up to 100
hours in lenght according to him. I think he was exadurating, but I think that definately means we'll be seeing some DLC for this.
Also I don't know why they didn't just spread it over 2 or 3 disks. Seems like things could have been cut for the purpose of releasing later. Maybe
I'm being paranoid
It's out in the U.S. and Australia/New Zealand!!!! It's out now!!!!
And it's so gooooooood, wahhhhh!!!!
Sorry for that outburst, but it's just that good. If you have the option to play the original first, I recommend doing so.
You don't need to to fully enjoy this game, but I played it in the weeks leading up to release and I can see how well the developers have done with
this game. Also I understand some things quicker than I would have if I had no knowledge of the series before playing.
Anyway, this is a damn fine game. It is most definately worth your time and money.
