This is what Space Weather is reporting:

This morning at 0805 UT, sunspot 1263 produced a powerful X7-class solar flare . . . The brunt of the explosion was not Earth directed. Nevertheless, a minor proton storm is in progress around our planet, which could affect satellites in high-altitude orbits. Also, radiation from flare created waves of ionization in Earth's upper atmosphere, briefly disrupting communications at some VLF and HF radio frequencies.

SOHO coronagraphs show a CME emerging from the blast site. The cloud will probably miss Earth. At this time, however, we cannot rule out a glancing blow from the flank of the CME on or about August 11th. Stay tuned for updates.

We'll see how the CME goes, but it will probably not do much to us here on the mud ball known as Dirt . . . I mean Earth.

Be Well

The CME. A fast and apparently quite dense one.
sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov...

On second thought, it doesn't look like that CME was associated with the flare. It's too far south.

This X-7 Flare when exploding does indeed look like an X.

Time will tell if this has any effect on us.

I would like to remind you guys.....the last X-Flare we had was a few days before the Japan Quake. I have no idea if there is a relation or not......I guess we will see. Time WILL tell.

Peace and love to all of you!!!!!!!!!!

There's a full moon this coming saturday...I have always watched with a keen interest how they appear to have an effect on increased earthquake activity. Maybe this will 'mingle' with the sun's acivity of late?

Is there going to a major earthquake because of this ? I'm thinking Japan here, can anybody answer that question for me ?

NO. there is no evidence that solar flares cause earthquakes, and in any case, the associated CME will probably miss the earth completely.

Solar flares have little effect on Earth. They can cause problems for satellites and temporary interruptions in communications.

This flare probably originated in Region 1263 which is on the edge of the Sun. It is likely that any CME which was associated with the flare will not be Earth Directed.

Lolwut? Do you have ANY idea what happens if a super flare (and they do happen, just never pointed at us yet) will do to the earth? Kiss whats left of the O-Zone goodbye and say hello to all that deadly radiation, the magnetosphere will be blown away too and the radiation will penetrate as far down as 3 miles into the earths crust. Unless you live in a bunker 4 miles deep, you dead. Deep sea aquatic life might survive because water dissipates radiation, but everything else will go the way of the dinosaurs, even plant and tree life will die. Ofcourse the odds of it happening are miniscule, 3 billion years of life on this world and life is still here, so either it happened after life just started in the oceans where the water could have spared life, or its never happened.

However, that doesnt mean that it CAN'T or WON'T happen. Who knows maybe all those little gray buggers people keep seeing and those flying ships are pleasure yachts where the aliens can get a front row seat to the destruction of the earth for their history books about the ends of civilizations.

I'm gonna laugh when 12/21/12 gets here and nothing happens. I remember back in Y2K thousands of people rushing to the stores for their doomsday supplies of water, milk and bread. People storing up massive reserves of seeds and buying MRE's like WW3 was starting. Y2K happened, everyone stood around scratching their heads because the earth was still here, they were still alive. Mass Hysteria at its finest.

People have been saying its the end of the world since God alone knows when, yet for some reason, mankind is STILL here.
