blogs.sfweekly.com

Sanford "Spamford" Wallace, the notorious social-networking spammer, self-surrendered to FBI agents today, nearly a month after he was indicted by a federal grand jury on multiple counts of electronic mail fraud.

The 43-year-old spam artist appeared in federal court today where he was released on a $100,000 bond and ordered not to access Facebook or MySpace.

I wonder how the FBI could use this man - If they had any sense - they'd employ him.

Last year, it was noted that the F.B.I were "trained" in social networking and taught how to extract information.

With so many people eager to use, and discuss their lives on the social networks; are we even safe any more?

It would seem that private institutions/corporations/governments/politicians can get a perfect snapshot of our likes and dislikes and use them against us, especially if they take advantages of spammers like Sanford Wallace.

Hate isn't even strong enough for for the crap spammers give the rest of the non spamming people, which includes all of the capcha, phone confirmation, etc.,(or so that's what they want you to think! vs getting your phone info)) that we have to go through to use anything on some sites. Spamming is big money, in the end we'll all loose from their gains. Yeah, he probably will land a job with the Feds.

You chose to watch TV, you dont choose to be spammed.

I hope he goes away for a long time, spammers are scum and are also fraudsters so Id expect him to spend many decades in jail.

No really I choose to use the Internet just like you do. your not forced to use it. Do you choose to get Junk mail through the post office?

Since when is spam a crime.... I hate spam too, but this is ridiculous. If you post junk messages on each of your friends Facebook walls you get $100,000 bond and FBI knocking on your door. I call BS on this one.

Another reason to not be on Facebook

It seems the F.B.I arn't concerned with Nigerian phishing scams, for example.

The information gathered from Facebook would give them brilliant demographics, statistics and trends allowing them to sell information to advertisers etc.

That's what seems sketchy to me. F.B.I have always been sketchy. Of course, they do some good, but like religion, the good parts don't dilute the bad.

I don't understand... can you people even read? Facebook sued him for breaking into a bunch of accounts and the judge gave him a "restraining order" from accessing Facebook's network.

By January, Wallace was back at the social networking; he created and maintained a Facebook profile, "David Sinful-Saturdays Fredericks," in clear violation of the court order.

_NOTHING_ to do with spam.
