Well, the presumption of being innocent until found guilty you know.

If we still had the hanging in place during the troubles.

Can you imagine how many innocent people would have been hanged?

What next are they going to be forced to discuss Sharia Law? If someone places a petition and gain enough signatures.

Too bad they would not bring back hanging here in the states. They are far too soft on criminals; why not give them a lollipop and a pat on the head instead? So our capital punishment is now lethal injection as crybabies’ think electrocution is too mean on a person who brutally and intentionally stole the life from another individual. In my opinion chemical and physical castration along with capital punishment should be expanded to further crimes. Why should they get to live the rest of their life in prison with free medical, dental, meals, electricity, and shelter while the working man has to work to provide these things for someone who has absolutely no regard for their community and other people?

I know it sounds harsh, “how can you treat another human being such a way”. My answer is that when they torture, kill, or psychologically damage another person intentionally they have voluntarily signed an agreement giving up all their natural rights as a human. So yes hanging sounds like a good thing in my opinion, it gets the point across to other criminals, “see him there? Do the same and that will be you.”

But seeing as how too many in Europe are afraid of punishing people who have no problem murdering, raping, and torturing innocent civilians there is no way this would even be considered. The Socialist-Left would strangle anyone who even looked at such an idea.

Nothing to do with Europe, the issue is wither or not MP's in the UK should bring back the death Penalty. If they had not banned the death penalty in the UK years ago. Innocent people such as the Birmingham 6 or others whom have been falsely imprisoned, either by substantiated evidence or evidence which has been interfered with would be dead by now. And we all do know the police have been caught out in the past with planting evidence.

Would you still stand by your comments?

Any punishment other than imprisonment should not be exercised unless there is substantial evidence which today would constitute DNA for example. Unless such substantial evidence is found then no, capital punishment should not be an option. But, for any specific time in history, if there was enough substantial evidence to meet agreed upon requirements for said time then yes, I do believe capital punishment should have been pursued. If, what I have stated above, was what would have happened to this ‘Birmingham 6’ then yes capital punishment should have been pursued because the courts had all the right reasons to believe they were in fact the guilty party.

Of course we know that they were in fact innocent, that was not known at the time, so we must always view the scenario in the eyes of those present at that time with no knowledge of any future developments. Sure the jurors, courts, and families would have been upset that these innocent men were executed but the courts had every reason to believe they were guilty and acted accordingly.

During the 80's and 90's it was not. The evidence provided by DNA was still questionable. You just have to look at some cases where individuals have been wrongly found guilty also by corruption from the Police, which was later quashed by the UK Supreme Court, if those individuals had been given the death penalty. It would have been wrong, then we would be debating wither it was right or wrong to hang someone who was innocent.

And if your going to say a independent panel could be set up to see if this does not happen. There is not Independence what so ever. They can also be influenced.

So no to bringing back the death penalty.

Are you sure that this scheme is not another way of the Gov monitoring your points of view and then categorising you as a potential threat, or even building a database for furture use?

Well if you put it that way.

Say for instance. A Petition was logged, to Abolish the Monarchy, and the petition reaches the targeted number. How would the Government act to this and would they actually debate it?

If they did not. Then we would know something sinister is going on.

Yes, that for instance. Or indeed, any other topic that the Gov may consider to be undesireable. You may end up with a rude awakening at 4am, if you sign up for such a petition.

I think you could be right, I signed the E Petition lets have a referendum on EU membership, fingers crossed it will reach 100,000, will I be on some government database? I personally don't care as I through my years have been active in what isn't considered the 'norm'

As for the DP it has not place in a civilised society imho, does not work as a deterant, innocents could be executed, and is hugely expensive, and cruel.

Toughen up penalties on police corruption, a minimum of 20 years should do it. They would be ruining someones life so they deserve to have theirs ruined.

They framed people because they could get away with it and even if they were caught, nothing would happen.

The success of any such site would depend on the target number needed in order for it to be looked into. At 100,000 it doesn't represent the mood of the people. This could be abused by anyone with an agenda... I mean even the BNP could muster up that many signatures, it doesn't mean the other 60 odd million of us would think it was ok.

Edit to add; www.bbc.co.uk...

It's not a new site, its the first publicly announced batch that have been submitted. The death penalty will always be called for by "the people" whilst we still allow our mooching elderly to bleed us dry!! ;-P

I'm only playing, although if I were to start a petition on the site
to forcefully euthanize over 50s I think it would attract a lot of signatures "for the lols", and there lies the problem with the whole thing. We need leaders who respect the people enough that they openly ask us to decide on the big stuff, and who would decide upon the mundane BUT inform the people. Leaders who answer to the people and can be held accountable to the people for any misdeeds. Leaders who respect the people enough not to indulge in such misdeeds.

I hope this is not an old thread, but i searched for a thread about e-petitions and this was at the top of the list.

It would seem that the gov. has decided that we are afterall not going to be able to have choose what is debated. They claim not to have time.

MPs don't have time to debate the public's e-petitions, a senior minister said yesterday in Parliament, adding nonetheless that it was a nice way for people to express what they was interested in. The e-petitions website hasn't quite delivered the utopian future of internet-democracy some might have hoped – out of the five petitions that have passed the threshold 100,000 signatures that they need to be debated by lawmakers, three will be debated and two will not.

Source

How can they not have time, i had always hoped that our parliment spent most of its time debating important issues etc. Maybe we will have to create an e-petition about the e-petitions and hope that they choose to debate it if it got to 100000 signatures.

This is my first post i hope that it is setup correctly. I would also like to ask if someone would be willing to create a new topic regarding this article as i am still under 20 posts.

Do you really think that, is going to happen? No I do not think it would make a difference in how corrupt the UK Police are. The IPCC, does not have any teeth when it comes to it monitoring Police Authorities. As seen in a documentary on the BBC last week. In a lot of cases the officer who have brought their job into disrepute, their cases have been heard behind closed doors our of the view of the Public. And in a lot of the cases the Officers involved either resign or are moved to other Police Authorities around the country.

So toughening up the Laws on corruption within the police would not work.
