A Swedish man was arrested last month after authorities discovered that his effort to build a nuclear reactor in his kitchen had ended with a small meltdown.

Richard Handl told The Associated Press Wednesday that he had obtained radium, americium and uranium, but the attempt split atoms had only been a hobby.

Most of the radioactive elements came from common items like smoke detectors and old clock hands, which were bought on eBay. He also purchased a Geiger counter from the U.S. by mail order

Well I realy dont know what to make of this. Real clever or just plain dumb. A bit of both maybe.
He even blogged his efforts so he cant have thought it was illegal. Nor would he be doing it for criminal activity.
I building a rockery for my hobby this man made a nuclear reactor in his house...
If this one man can do it himself from stuff you can buy on ebay I guess there is nothing stopping people doing it for different reasons...

I have always wondered about that. Just what kind of high science the average Joe could cook up in his garage and how would the law even begin to cover some things. Its a DIY revolution and information is more widely available than ever. I can see more people trying these types of things as they begin to trust PTB less and less. Why bother with big power companies when you can just make your own reactor: I wonder if I build a mobile suit in the yard can I just pass it off as an art instillation.

Judging from the pictures I saw of this yesterday, it all seemed like a big mess of failure

That is pretty cool actually. Reminds me of a story I read years ago about a teenager in the U.S. who tried to build himself a system to refine nuclear material. I think the article was the nuclear boyscout, or something with boyscout. Apparently he got his nuclear physics merit badge and decided he wanted to build a reactor. LOL.

I'm sorry, but I think its a false flag of some kind to try and put in place laws that would stop inventors from creating free energy devices, or HHO fuel at home, and spreading this info to everyone they know.

And of course they chose to use some useless dirty technology that no one in their right mind would try to duplicate, and then stretch it to become clean energy devices.

Ah yeah gee the guy is smart enough to build a nuclear reactor in his kitchen but not smart enough to know how dangerous it is without proper shielding and then suddenly wonders after an explosion if it is legal so calls the authorities on himself... Yeah that was just all coincidence... Sigh.

You sure its not because some quack was selling $9.99 plans on the internet for a nuclear reactor that supposedly powered your house?
