Oak Hill eliminates police department

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - In a surprise move Monday night the city of Oak Hill eliminated its entire police department.
The police chief and a few officers were under scrutiny for alleged illegal and odd behavior. The city council was so fed up they simply wiped out the entire department.
The mayor called the special meeting Monday tonight that started with the trashing of the police chief and the mayor called for her termination. But then the board talked about it more and decided to get rid of the entire department.
It came as a shock to the room full of citizens, even the chief. Officers handed in their badges and guns. People hugged the chief and during the meeting just minutes after the vote, a call came in for service.
Both sides admitted there was trouble brewing between city hall and the police department for years.
In fact just last week the mayor says someone planted pot plants in her yard. The police chief climbed a ladder and took a picture of it over the fence. Something the mayor didn't appreciate.
It was investigated and determined the plants were not the mayor's.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office will handle calls in Oak Hill and the mayor says it will cost the same amount to have the sheriff's office cover the area 24-7.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Tiny Maywood, Calif., laid off every single one of its city employees on Wednesday.
But that doesn't mean the city is closing up shop. City Hall will still be open, as will Maywood's park and recreation center. Police will continue to patrol the streets.
They just won't be staffed by Maywood employees. The city can't have any staff because it can't get liability or worker's compensation insurance for them. Maywood's carrier, the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority, dropped it earlier this month in part because of several police-related claims.
Instead of declaring bankruptcy, Maywood officials decided to outsource all city functions. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will patrol the streets, while the neighboring city of Bell will cover other city functions, such as staffing City Hall.

Not all is what it seems ,the sherriffs sales Dept always says they will do it cheaper ,A Lie !you sell your policeDept & vehicals out then you get less officers on duty with the sherriff so longer response time blah blah But it cost too much to bring your guys back plus the cars ect .then the sherriff raises there rates, its a game happening all over California, I wonder what the sherriffs offer city mayors which places that wedge between police Chiefs and coucils?because several Cities have made the papers latley wanting there own cops back after they fire them
