The good news, our jobs are currently outsourced to low wage workers...the bad news...

Strange when you think about it..if that is the "good" news, what the hell could the bad news be?
Simple really:

World’s Largest Electronics Manufacturer Foxconn Wants 1 Million More Robots In 3 Years. Bye-bye Human Labor

Cheap labor isn’t cheap enough for the world’s largest electronics manufacturer. Terry Gou, the CEO of Foxconn recently told employees that they would be replacing human workers with one million robots over the next three years. These robots would handle many basic manufacturing tasks such as spraying, welding, and assembly.

So yeah, the bad news is that even the low wage workers still want...wages.
So, the biggest electronics manufacturer on earth is replacing everyone with robots.

Our manufacturing jobs are over, straight across the board. This is not a warning shot, this is victims being buried.

Now, we cannot stop the future from happening...it simply won't work.
We will never get manufacturing jobs back. Sorry, but even if some soft hearted company man decideed to hire only humans, his things would be so overpriced compared to the robotic made stuff, that he would quickly go out of business.

So, what is the solution...its time to stop thinking "in the future things will be different and we will have to move on"...the future is here, the recession will not end, and its seriously time to have that adult conversation on how we survive in a world where there are only jobs flipping burgers, or being a investor...where does that leave the rest of us? (and yes, burger flipping will also give way to robotics making perfect food in record time)

So basically bad news and worse news!
That's terrible though....never thought it would get to that point.
Humans vs. robots. WTF?!

Verses? I don't like that word, that makes it sound like it is possible either side could "win"...

More like Robots > Humans.

The good news bit was that, if we stripped away all our standards and lived like near slaves to accept scraps of $10 a day to work really hard 14 hour days, we could have competed with the others...but even that possibility is going away

Capitalism exists no more, now its corporatism...and corporates only run on bottom line profits...there is -no- changing that, nor slowing it.

I completely agree with you!!!!

Sadly, this is the future of capitalism. When profits become more important than people, implementing ideas like this become the best option for those running the company. It is the sad truth, but this is what we have bred...This is what the American dream has bred.

Final stop will be socialism, then a technocratic socialist society (aka, star trek's "federation") where people get all the creature comforts, but seek out what they personally want to do verses trying to just make a living.

But, we got a whole host of disasters before we get to that conclusion...to include rampant unemployment, endless revolts around the world, etc etc etc...

So, there is a silver lining amongst the many clouds of doom...we may come out alright...but not before we walk through hell. I just hope to live long enough to see it go from bad to good...

Sadly, this is the future of capitalism.

When I hear "capitalism", I envision a string of mom and pop shops in downtown areas...I quite like capitalism in that view.

What we have here is corporatism, the entity that closes down mom and pop shops, removes opportunity, and like a dictator, enforces only a very narrow degree of choice in freedom. Walmart is a fair example of what happens in corporatism.

The issue is of course, corporatism is the most popular brand of government worldwide. All politicians and most million/billionares shovel all money and power at the corporate idols and curse anyone challenging the system..

However, you cannot challenge the system..its nearly impossible..instead, we simply have to wait for the system to crumble under its own weight and rebuild from there...robotics and the like are here for good, however, the way the tech is used will change over time.

My solution to this problem (having worked in electronics manufacturing before) is to work for myself instead. By this I mean growing my own food and producing my own power instead of working for somebody else to obtain money to buy it with. When one's necessities are met by their own efforts, they wouldn't have to worry about the economic downturn, because they know that they won't starve to death when there's no work. Besides, a farm big enough to supply all of a vegetarian's food, requires as little as 20 minutes a day to maintain, if set up properly. How many hours would a person have to work at their crappy manufacturing job to get enough money to buy the equivalent amount of organic produce?

Ya, but thats just surviving/existing.

Yes, its good to grow your own if you can, and learn how to be a "coupon clipper" for all things (not literal coupons, but you know...shortcuts not requiring a storefront).

But, we also like things like..computers, televisions, camera phones, etc...stuff...we love stuff, and you need money to buy stuff. Happiness in life comes from within, but is enabled often by external things...

How to buy stuff in the future is going to be the question, and in the end, you still need to pay morgage or rent, still need gas money to get around, etc...this is the part where we will suffer...no, perhaps not starve to death suffer (in the end, we may all end up on food stamps anyhow) but being the vast underclass that has no access to the new and cool technologies is an issue..

And, another thing to consider, if people go poor, and cant buy the cool neat things, that makes it less profitable to progress technology also (considering the incentive to make a billion bucks is gone, after all, hardly anyone will buy it)..so it could be a technological stagnator ironically enough.

The long term result is going to be either an absolute disaster of stagnation and poverty globally, or a new form of government.

If a robot can do a thoughtless, repetitive job, it's one less person who is, in essence, a robot.

I see this as a good thing.

Oh, I'm sure that eventually we are going to see the former, and it will hopefully lead to the latter.

I agree. I love my electronics. I'm totally addicted to the planned obsolescence that leads to me spending a couple grand a year getting newer and better gadgets. I also can easily raise that kind of money in my spare time, which I have a lot of since I don't work for someone else.

Most of us are under that impression.
If your property is owned by a 501 (c)(3) not for profit agricultural organization that you run to teach other people how to live independantly, you don't pay property taxes, and you wouldn't pay a mortgage if you were smart enough to not become a debt slave to a bank to purchase it instead of saving and building yourself within your financial means.
One might also be surprised how easy it is to become independent of fossil fuels as well. I'm currently saving to get a waste vegetable oil set up to convert an old Mercedes Benz to run on free goop from a grease trap.
Granted, if/when our socioeconomic system collapses, there won't be any grease to get from restaurants that no longer have any customers who can afford their greasy foods to begin with, but nor will there be any petroleum products that you could obtain no matter how much you work and earn. For that matter, there won't be any new technological advancements for us to lust after either until we can rebuild. At that point, the people with self sufficient homesteads will be the upper class, instead of just "surviving/existing".

All the more reason this archaic monetary system has to be done away with. The alternative? I don't know I guess it would be that everyvbody be given some land and fend for themselves based upon knowledge. See I could take land in the Desert like Arizona, or New Mexico because I could practice hydroponic growing...because I am into all kinds of gardening, yeah assign each to his land based on ability. Those who are used to the city get to stay there, and do something like babysitting or something (if that's all the knowledge they have). IDK, I am jsut throwing ideas out there.
ETA: Or go into robotics, programming, or IT...which I have already done, but would do both above and this.

There won't be any profits if no one can BUY their products.

KILL EM ALL, LET GOD SCORN EM ALL.

in seriousness this society is beyond #ed at this point, and there probobly isn't even a way to regulate or even get someone near office who would try to, citizens need to start nationalizing resources the good old fasioned way, by force, supervisors, factory workers and factory managers should also do the same, then we can pool resources and re-establish a government to manage said resources and factories, # social policing, and social services can be made once we have the working man safe lock stock and barrel. as for the elitist investment class, well leave them to the lynch mobs.
