POLITICS: US Calls for Probe Into Venezuelan Recall Election

Despite Chavez announcing victory in the recent Venezuelan recall election, the US is not joining the international community in backing that claim. US officials are calling for an investigation into claims, made by sources within Chavez's opposition, that the vote contained a massive fraud. The State Department is reporting that even though the Organisation of American States performed a quick count that confirmed Venezuela's results, Washington is still not wholeheartedly accepting them.



If the US believes that there is a major discrepancy between the actual voice of the people and the way the vote turned out, Washington probably won't hesitate much to become involved.

Many are noting that Venezuela is one of the world's largest exporters of oil and that Chavez has annoyed the Bush administration. It seems that the US may be looking for an excuse to "liberate" the people of Venezuela.

i will ask the question anyway......so do all nations national elections have monitors from other countries?? does the u.s. monitor all other nations election..looking for possible problems to call for a probe???? i geuss the AMERICA is the worlds police force. how do you think AMERICANS will react when the u.n. says there is a problem with an AMERICAN election and call for a probe, and want to put u.n. monitors at election booths and the u.n. wants to count the votes............
