both of these groups are fools. you spend all day arguing about the way to do things instead of sayin, screw our differences let's make it happen. control of congress, and senate, shouldn't matter. it should be the ability to work towards the good of the nation.

as for bring a military family, my mom was in bosnia, my father was in vietnam for two tours, recently got kidney cancer from agent oragne but is OK, my grandfather was a ww2 vet and his father fought in ww1. my moms great great granduncle fought in the civil war. i dunno if it can get much longer than that. they came from italy, and poland in the early 1800's they might even have been in the war of 1812 but our geneology isn't that complete

i know that my parents even if ordered by powell himself, wouldn't kill me or my brother, or any cicilian for that matter. soldiers may fight, but that doesn't mean they don't have morals.

To tell you the truth, I dont think any civilians would shoot a kid (except someone who was shot at first) even if ordered by the president or Powell. I think the same goes for the military. Also, many civilians wouldnt even want to shoot ANYONE. Just something to think about.

Eh, in truth there's no way a civil war scenario would play out here in the US. You have to have two groups which comprise the majority of the population, each in its "homeland" with ideologies that are strong enough that they're already fighting with each other.

You could have it in Ireland between the Protestants and the Catholics, since the groups don't live together. You see this in all sorts of third world countries.

There's no such scenario here in the US.

Furthermore, what happens after militia take over has been well demonstrated in other countries -- it gets LESS safe for individuals, the state infrastructure collapses, and you get the rise of the warlords -- nightmarish situation where you get gangs of roving thugs, each with different leaders, each saying that they're only trying to protect the people and country from looters, robbers, outside influences, and those Horrible Warlords.

I hate America - they are all arrogant idiots who have no concept of the rest of the world. I know it's not their fault bless them. But "god bless America" quotes people are writing is just bizarre. Most Hollywood films are absolute bull# - America saves the world again! Its so dull and boring. Why are they so up themselves? The rest of the world are very modest when they succeed in things but America always has to be bigger and better than the rest of the world and makes sure the rest of the world know about it. In fact everyone else is laughing at them thinking how pathetic they are.

Britchick, not such a nice way to greet those who are not sterotypes of your euro-propaganda. Those of us on ATS are very open minded and surprisingly many here have shown cincear consideration towards all(ok, some excluded). Your opinion is valid as anyones. If you wish for that to be respected, show respect.

Tetsuo, no reason to go stoopin to her level. This that divides us must be overcome. All should consider what is required to create unity. Foremost it is equality, and until all can see the other as equal division will dominate.

Can't say there would be a civil war. Something would have to happen where one side gets arrogent the other gets insensed, much like what happened back in 1863. Possibly the Democrats and Republicans, but you won't have total unity in either camp, where you have conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans. The situation with Rodney King case in L.A. came close yet that riot was ended and people prosecuted. It may be political, most likely it will racially motivated. Aren't those that were once considered minorities now the majority? Until we solve our racial differences to everyone's sattisfaction this is where next civil war might erupt. But even still...

Welcome back BritChick! Well that is the way it appears to you. Being a world power, not much competition. China? Russia? We don't go around conquering countries and assimilating them as an imperialist country might. We help countries get back on their feet the best way we know how, with democracy. No we are not perfect, no country is, but we are, in my opinion the best thing out there. Until something better comes along, I will just stay here thank you.

No it was not past my bed time - I am on a different time zone, I know that's hard for you ignoramous to understand.

Of course America is the best out there in your opinion - you have probably never been out of America or even have a passport. Something like 90% of the US population do not have a passport!!!!!!

You never hear about countries until you declare war on them. I know it is just your culture but you need to get out there and understand what is going on in the rest of the world.

Thanks

They will lie about not wanting to assist you on the sidewalk. Or they may lie about not wanting to hang out with you...almost like american woman but backwards. The koreans are just plain parranoid from too much segregation, sometime I think that korean dude is sittin on a huge stash o dope and hes paranoid somebodies going to take it so he screams MINEMINE MINE!!!! like i've said before. until fools like britchick are able to look past where a person is from before making a judgement about them, people will never get along. nationalism eh? well ya know what, i'm italian american. a lot of my friends are puerto ricans and african american. i don't like most american people cos they dunno what it's like to face a struggle. the reason 90% of the americans don't have a passport, is because 2% of the population holds all the wealth. i've had a passport since the day i was born. it's a precaution for martial law. brit chick, i think you're just mad cos 250 years ago, yall brits let us get away. remember what america is, we are all people. there is no america, we are made up of ALL people of the world. we can all be traced back oversees, except for natives, something i still don't agree with. america, the land of the free.. and we claimed the land already owned. it's the past, we can do nothing about it.

now quit your POINTLESS BIKCERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell is Lurk going on about - Japanese people lying and Korean people being paranoid - I do not understand!

I know you are right I am stereotyping - I guess I am just going on my experiences of Americans.

What I don't get though is many people in Boston and NewYork being supporters of the IRA because they are "Irish American". Jerry Adams leader of Shin Fein which is the political party in Southern Ireland who represent the IRA held a conference in USA shorlty after September 11th at 100 a ticket and many relatives of the WTC attacks were at this meeting. I find this utterly impossible to believe - their family had been killed ot injured in a massive terrorist attack but paying money to go to this meeting when the money would be going to the IRA who are terrorists and fund bombs and weapons to go and kill inocent people.

Can anyone help me out with this?

Thanks

well i don't know what lurker was talkin about either.. there could have been some substances being abused over there..

but anyways, britchick, as far as passports go and visiting other countries, i was just wondering first of all how much time you have spent in africa, iraq (or any middle eastern country), or asia maybe. if you answered none, then oh why not? too far away? too different from you? seriously, going from england to spain or france etc. is like going from say chicago here to denver, san francisco, new york or something. we have 1 country here where in europe you have so many countries in the same size area or smaller. i travel across america as often as you probably travel europe, the only difference being you have to show them a piece of paper (your vaunted passport) every few hundred miles or so whereas we don't. doesn't seem very special to me. and yes we are made up of everybody of every nationality across the globe so we are possibly the most culturally diverse country in the world so don't act like we only know "american" whatever you think that may be. perhaps this had slipped your mind when you were posting.

Nobody has answered my IRA question I take it nobody knows.

You say America is just like Europe except you have to show a bit of paper every few hundred miles - I assume you havn't been to everywhere in Europe then? If you go to just England, France, Greece and Spain you will find that the cultures are very very different - different religion, different arcitecture, different beliefs, different history need I go on?
I personally have been to USA many times Gambia, Kenya and Tanzania (all in Africa), Dubai and Saudi Araiba (Middle east countries and Hong Kong to name a few (and all of Europe of course) therefore I think I am in quite a good position to judge dont you think?

Britchick you seem fairly clueless about anything pertaining to America.

I for one know a lot of history, and I know enough to know the rest of the world isn't worth a dime. That's your problem though, you live in the rest of the world.

And while many Americans just believe they are better than the rest of the world without founding, I can at least believe America is better than the rest of the world because I know it to be so.

Most of the rest of the world is falling into poverty for this one fact.

Farming has over farmed the land.

America...and the rest of the 1st and most of the 2nd world is spared from this though at a price, chemicals and synthetics.

The 3rd world however is unable to obtain this, places like Africa, are unable to farm ariable land anymore. It's too alkaline and not enough minerals.

It is this one sole problem that is leading to the misery of the rest of the world, and America's glory.

Within the next 50 years or so, this division will be shown, and history will record the seperation between the developing and the developed world as another phase in technological advancement, akin to the industrial revolution.

"The rest of the world is not worth a dime" Yes you are correct in saying that America is very wealthy of course they are, and they have most of the world by it's balls because of all the multinational companies that are owned by Americans however I wouldn't say the rest of the world isn't worth a dime.

However I think America has had it's time, America is a bully and bullies the rest of the world into doing what they want, this will not last. The rest of the world hate America not because they have money but because they use it to bully other nations with such arrogance and stupidity.

I feel sorry for naivity and arrogance - I mean George Bush didnt even know where Europe was before he became president, how stupid must you be to have someone like that running your country.

America is corrupt and full of crime, you are allowed to walk around with guns and still have the death penalty - awful country.

about the IRA and WTC victims, i don't know any victims families personally so i dont' know about that. i do know there are americans who support IRA, i don't know if any of them are WTC victims or not.

and congratulations on visiting those countries, i wasn't sure if you had so i was just asking. you are somewhat well-traveled if you have been to those places, britchick. however what you don't take into account is that america in itself has very different cultures existing within its borders. you see, we are a country where everybody comes to us, so we don't necessarily have to go to other countries to experience their specific cultures. there may be polish immigrants, german immigrants, italian immigrants, greek immigrants, kenyan immigrants, japanese immigrants, mexican immigrants, and russian immigrants living on the same block. maybe this is just me speaking, coming from chicago, which is one of the more culturally diverse areas in the U.S. but i think it's a fair assessment.
