This sounds like a paranoid rant, but here goes...

I don't know about you, but I spend a considerable amount of time
surfing the net looking for "cool things." I pass these things on, and I guess
whoever receives them passes them on too. I believe these things are called "memes."

Normally I am a critical and creative person but lately it has been more and more
difficult for me to formulate something creative. I just can't be bothered and for me
to be critical of things means I have to trawl through reams and reams of data just
to find out the truth of something. I would rather find something fast, read it and pass it on.
I know finding the truth is a long process that requires patience, but it seems to me passing
along conspiracy theories with little or no evidence has become the norm.

It isn't that I do not have creative ideas or critical abilities, it is the fact that my attention span on these
ideas is very short - I like them initially and then it fades. In the past this was not the case.
I often wonder what caused this and whether there is something going on behind the scenes. Has my "machinery" has been hijacked by some force for other purposes? Am I just a specific "swapper
node" in some vast network, If so how can I reverse this? (I cannot concentrate on things I should be concentrating on but I can concentrate on "junk")

I also noticed a similar hijacking with companies. Call it parasitical or symbiotic if you wish.
Example recent bailouts and companies being so big they can't possibly fail because the outcome
of such would be catastophic. these companies produce "junk" which in turn is passed on.

Does this mean that I and others are the victims of some kind of parasitical life? force over which we
have little or no control? When will this behavior be "weeded out" from the human race?
Is it a good thing?

You decide......but for now I really do think I am in limbo

I became aware of a term recently called "memetic warfare." Apparently it was related to some obscure alternative reality game but the idea struck me. The people that play this game are extremely verbose and in this game world, they break down human psychology in order to attack the mind using memes. I don't mean stuff like "i can haz...." but more the willingness for humans to constantly seek novelty. This could be used to twist and assert force over the mind in the fashion of propaganda.

ETA: By "machine" do you mean your body and mind? There is a parasite called Toxoplasma Gondii. It gets inside humans and actually controls their mind. For anyone doubting this, I know it sounds absurd but I urge you to look it up for yourself. At any rate, it infects 33%+ of the entire human population. It has been linked to brain cancer and schizophrenia and causes the host to strongly seek out novelty.

I don't think it's some force deliberately doing it. I blame the internet. As access to information has become faster our attention spans have become shorter. Everything's too easily accessible, we skip from webpage to the next and expect the info we're looking for to be there straight away. Who wants to go to a library these days and search something out? That's why you often see people here getting annoyed with people who post long threads, they just don't have the concentration to take it all in.

That's my theory anyway: faster information = shorter attention span.

I had to reflect on this post for about 28.88 minutes before commenting.
Please consider the following to be thousands of different replies boiled down into
a few short declarative sentences.

Have I or the human species been hijacked by covert unconscious forces?

Yes.

But what to do about it, and how to tell.

Reproduceable results.

Hundreds of years of philosophy,
thousands of years of civilization and
the Renaissance scientists agreed on one thing.

Reproduceable results.

Objectively verified, checked by colleagues of all languages, this has been the gold standard.

BUT,
the meme, as you so acurately name it,
is a type of reproduceable social result that
requires no expensive labratory equipment and
seems more deconstructive and transitory currently
as major corporations experiment with it to generate sales.

Let's examine the meme of "Anonymous" in this context.
A sucessful meme should have represented in it's symbol
a few key ingredients if it is to thrive, survive, and overtake.
These are legs, teeth, and eyes.
Notice that the Anonymous symbol never shows teeth, and doesn't have legs.
Their strongest attribute seems to be only what they see, or perceive.

Looking ahead
Acording to the dialectic theory any thesis is eventually confronted by it's antithesis.
Instead of either one being completely destroyed they synthesise and a new thesis
that contains elements of each of the previously opposing views emerges.

So look to memes about science and reproduceable results.
My prediction is that this is the path to the emerging paradigm.

I recognise plenty of your points in my own thinking from time to time. A recent article sums up a lot of what's happening to the collective memories and perceptions of the technological end of human society...

Four years ago, Betsy Sparrow became exasperated watching an old black-and-white fi lm called Gaslight. She recognized the young actress playing the maid but couldn’t remember her name. Luckily, she had her smartphone. “I found the answer* online immediately,” she says, and the relief was palpable.

That incident sparked a conversation with her husband that continued into the night. “How did we use to remember things like this before the Internet?” wondered Sparrow, who at the time was a psychology graduate student at Harvard University.
Searching for the Google effect on human memory

She explained that the propensity of participants to remember the location of the information, rather than the information itself, is a sign that people are not becoming less able to remember things, but simply organising vast amounts of available information in a more accessible way.

"I don't think Google is making us stupid - we're just changing the way that we're remembering things... If you can find stuff online even while you're walking down the street these days, then the skill to have, the thing to remember, is where to go to find the information. It's just like it would be with people - the skill to have is to remember who to go see about [particular topics]."
Internet's memory effects quantified in computer study

As fast as the internet is changing our way of thinking, the 'Niagara Falls' of endless data, stories, memes and trends are hijacking the meaning from flesh and blood reality. For some more than others, but spending time with real people in a natural setting can't be a bad escape from it all. The internet is here to stay and will eventually encroach into most aspects of our lives when damn near everything is interconnected from cars, phones, credit cards and a constant barrage of profiled commercials. Nasty!

Consumer paradise and no thinking necessary...or encouraged.

Yes, the human species is being hijacked by covert forces.

Life basically consists of non-physical cause points and their physical creations. Many people these days have no clue about this. They don't FEEL like a non-physical cause point. How could they be? But people who have been interested in this have been looking into it for a long time. And this is the way it works out.

So: Why don't we know this?

The finding is that we agreed to forget it in order to make life more interesting. Being knowing cause all the time can become dull and boring. Too predictable. So we all decided to pretend that there are things we can experience that weren't caused by us. If it had stayed on that level, it would have been okay. Like kids playing "let's pretend."

But the agreement to "forget" opened up a whole new game: Forcing people to forget. And when some people (beings) started doing that to other people, the game deteriorated into what we have today.

You can have a wonderful, creative idea. And someone playing this game can come along and make you forget about that idea and instead worry about the economy or something. They get a kick out of doing this. For them it's "fun." Of course, someone else did it twice as bad to them or they wouldn't think that way about it. So we are all involved in the problem to some degree.

When the New Agers talk about humanity "waking up" this is what they are really talking about. They are talking about somehow getting out from under those parasitic control mechanisms. It is something each person has to personally accomplish. It takes a lot of work. I use Scientology for this and I think everybody should. But there are plenty of other choices. We all have a lot to learn about this. It's not always fun or easy, but it is necessary for our survival. Find a way that seems workable to you and use it!

We need creative thinkers now more than ever. I don't want to see another one lost to the "Dark Side."

Who are "we?" Apparently, you presume to know. What special circumstances has made you privy to this arcane knowledge?

Who's finding exactly? I don't recall to agreeing to anything of the sort.

Not everyone has tens of thousands of dollars to access overlord Xenu. I don't think this is the proper place to proselytize, however subtle it may be.

Actually, agreed. Too many people use whatever ability they have to do bad deeds.
