Here's the situation: It's nearly three years after 9/11, and the country has been lulled into a certain sense of security. The Patriot Act has been passed, some civil liberties have been curtailed but generally nothing too noticeable to the public at large.
All of the sudden terrorism blasts its way back into our lives again. A half dozen suicide bombers scattered themselves amongst the crowd at the RNC protests, all across the country suicide bombers attack crowds at busy malls and markets. For the finale, they manage to get a tanker that had gone missing up to the doors of the RNC convention itself. No high ranking officials were killed, but several Republican party hangers-on and media members perished. Those that didn't got the footage and story of their lives. Preliminary reports are that the group claiming responsiblity are a as of yet unknown Muslim extremist group operating within the US.
Here's the question: What freedoms are you willing to give up, or expect to see given up if this scenario, or any other kind of terrorist attack happens again?
I would expect travel would be restricted by internal checkpoints, and ID cards would be issued - and that would be just a small sampling.
My friend told me the other day he'd give up some liberties for safety, the thing that scares me is I think a lot of people think this way.
