IMO, he is showing the absurdity of higher taxes taken to their logical conclusion(for obama and his maoist belief system). Obviously this insane level of taxation would lead to a collapse even faster than the current situation. Only true, out right slaves would work at such rates. While most of us are "debt slaves", we are not yet physical property of the state.

But see, that is the problem. Obama is not a 'Maoist', and he has made no claims about anyone needing to pay 980-90% in taxes. Not even close. The only 80% claim was about the alleged percent of the population who agrees with their ideas. I suspect the person you are defending has poor reading comprehension.

To constantly refer to Obama as a radical leftist who wants to tax us all to death is an incredibly absurd argument not supported by the facts. He is a moderate at best, and resembles a Republican FAR more than any of the Nation's traditional leftists.

Obama no changerama is no governor becuase he is governed!! He talks a good game on change without realising that changing the status quo is nia impossible when the deck is stacked!!!!!!!

The Fed isn't private, it's quasi-private and all of the Feds profits are returned to the U.S Treasury. If you guys dislike the Federal reserve system just because you believe it to be ``private``, then you too are part of the problem.

The interest on the bonds they hold yes they refund the interest earned on it to the treasury. But they already stated they are going to sell these bonds in the next couple of years. No more refunded interest on the bonds and then we owe like 2 trillion to the bond holders which are bank ceo and big oil ceo.

The Statement that 80% of Americans approve of a tax hike in a message to the nation is just not right.

How do you distort facts to such a degree and keep a straight face?

If I were him, I would have read that and looked around and said,"hey,that number on the teleprompter,anybody bother to check that fact? Seems rediculously high."

If I were going against him in the next election, I'd throw that out there, quote it, and ask
"Are You in The Other 20%?"

i do hear republicans who arent on the govenrment dime to decrease taxes so they can keep more of what they earn.

Mr Obama never said that any americans want higher taxes, let alone 80% of them, so these sort of politically motivated lies just have no business on this website.

unless, of course, its a republican posting this hoping to sway voters with lies. in that case, this should be moved to Conspiracies.

What Mr Obama said, and I agree with it, is that before the hardworking taxpayer has to shell out the money to fix our economy, the billionaire and trillionaire oil and insurance companies should, since they are now currently enjoying a tax BREAK.

Could 80% of Americans support a tax hike because about 80% of Americans wouldn't know what to do if their way of life changed?

I'd say that at least 80% of America would poop themselves if things our tax dollars pay for were removed such as garbage collection, police monitoring, fire departments, roads fall apart, etc.

If you don't support a tax hike you are either too dumb to realize what taxes provide for society, or you wish to pattern yourself after them rugged men of the 18th century who REALLY didn't need taxes because there wasn't much of a civilization. They could simply go build them a log cabin and hunt squirrels for dinner.

If you like your civilization, you are a supporter of a tax increase.....though you may resist admitting it.

Funny, When I think of Washington DC, and people who do not represent me, the first people I think about wanting to rescind their right of representation would be Congress and the House.

That's really not much of an endorsement for Obama, either. But some of these guys have been in there for decades. What 'change' have they brought?

I tend to think people who blame the president and only the President, from either Party, are either intentionally or unintentionally perpetuating a sleight of hand. It was a lie when the Democrats tried to pretend the housing crisis and the Iraq war were solely the construct of the Republicans, and it sure is a big lie that Obama is solely to blame for the current state of the Nation.
