Hey everybody :-)

Lately I'm seeing all those posts with great videos of different weapons and stuff, and since there are so much more to see - I thought it would be a good idea to open a thread and concentrate here links to videos of different weapons and war-related stuff.

I don't have any good links myself, so I was hoping you would post here links to some good videos.

Thanks. : )

That XM8 looks like a serviceable weapon, but I still have my suspicions. For one thing, the Americans shy away from bullpup designs. That would have this rifle more compact.
Are the mags M16 types? Then I would wonder about the reliability especially with the 100 round drum which probably has no use on the battlefield. It isnt a Thompson. You risk more misfires with continuous bursts and it is designed to impress anyways. And where do you carry a drum that size?In your pocket?
Next would be all the gadgets your government would INSIST upon adding to the thing, until it looks like the latest M16's...another horse designed by a comittee.

I just saw the XM8 particulars. I for once think i like one of yours.
Interesting it has some of the FN's features as in mag release type and bolt holding open device.A real piston, carrying handle.
The plastic 30 round box magazines can clip together.I dunno...might mean more fumbling around when loading. They are still M16 types so time will tell.
It is pin drift connected and has a clever pin holder on the carrying handle.
Whatever happened to the built in cleaning kit like in the Enfield,FN,even the Grease Gun?

To answer stgeorge's "concerns" about the XM-8LAR

The XM8 is a very reliable weapon and the 100round rum would be good for suppression fire. You can carry it on you back of ammunition pockets in the uniform. The "gadgets" as you call hem are essential they may be nighvisons scope/regular scope, laser range finders and some with thermal vision so they are all needed to be as efficient as you can.

The XM8 Future Combat Rifle is intended to replace existing M4 Carbines and select 5.56mm x45 weapons in the US Army arsenal beginning as early as the fourth quarter of FY05.

The XM8 will provide lethality performance comparable to the currently fielded M4 carbine rifle, while weighing 20 percent less than the M4 because of advanced technologies developed for the XM29 program.

The XM8 Lightweight Assault Rifle will reduce the 21st century soldier's load and increase his mobility

The XM8 is a true family of weapons with different barrel lengths designed to address all the needs of an infantry squad. The standard model is expected to be lighter than the M4 carbine and no larger in size. Theres also a sharpshooter version for increased range; a compact version for cramped quarters; and an auto-rifle version for a squad-automatic weapon. The XM8 family has a 9-inch compact, 12.5-inch carbine and a 20-inch sharpshooter and automatic rifle. The 12.5-inch carbine is 6.4 pounds with an objective of 5.7 pounds and is 33 inches with its adjustable stock extended. The M-16 A2 is 39.63 inches long and 8.79 pounds with a 30-round magazine.
XM8 Carbine Specifications
Caliber - 5.56 mm
Capacity - 10/30/100 rds
Length - 29.8 in
Width - 2.34 in
Height - 9.17 in
Barrel Length - 12.5 in
Weight - 6.2 lb

This is an excellent video originally produced at the behest of the US Congress to demonstrate the power of these weapons.
After you watch the video you'll ask yourself why do they need anything bigger than a .50 .

BIG 50 VIDEO PAGE. Check it out !!

Finally some interesting weapons developement coming out.The model 90 SMG is clever, with the "inline" box magazine with new 5.7mm ammo. But they insist on a telescopic sight again!
"Blended ammo" is new.Might have a niche somewhere.
The 76mm "Impulse Weapon" was too hard to handle for an average person.
