Norway attack suspect wants open hearing, in uniform

The man who has confessed to the twin terror attacks in Norway which killed 93 people will appear in court today and has requested an open hearing so he can explain his massacre to the public.

But prosecutors have asked that the court be closed to the public and media. They have also requested eight weeks to prepare their case, said Oslo District Court spokeswoman Irene Ramm.

Why was the court closed to the media? If Norway believe in free speech why isn't there an open-enquiry. Why don't we get to hear his justification?

I'm sure many would not give him the chance, but surely it would be useful to understand why someone would commit such an atrocity?

Of course he wants an open hearing. He wants to send symbols to the other two cells to begin their operations. I don't care what anyone says, he did not act alone. He had help somewhere. I do not believe he is alone in his thoughts. I do believe that there will be more attacks of this caliber elsewhere, and he wants to wear his "uniform" as a clear signal to the others in his group to proceed with their operations.

Norway should keep the hearing closed, either that or try to bait the other members into a trap.

Well i say why give him what he wants? Did he give the victims a chance for life as I am sure that is what they wanted.

I have no mercy for people like this and maybe it is because I do not understand them.

I am not sure what to think myself, but the official explanation is that is about security. They are afraid that he might release some secret codes that can be deciphered by like minded individuals.

I think he wants attention AND SHOULD NOT GET IT.... Begin his energy drain early, give him attention (then he gets fed lots of energy-strength) then he sees no wrong doing because he made his cause go global anyway which is what he wanted. They should not give these types no attention. No media connections then he cannot judge his progress as he justifys his actions for whatever cause..

Secret codes? Maybe they're worried he'll throw out some names of the insiders who let this happen. If the man was that smart he would have a plan thought out before he was caught. The fact that they are worried about him doing some secret codes if the trial is made public is a complete joke.

CLOSE THE COURTS?????? so that the public doesnt know what actually happned during these events? oh the guys just crazy thats all, yeaupp just crazy thats why 90 people died, go back to bed america, everything is A-ok now, you can sleep.

this guy is probobly an asset, who knows weather he intended for this to happen or weather he was made too do this, either way WE NEED TO KNOW!

I think the bomb blast carnage and the killing spree on the island would be the `clear signal to the others in his group to proceed with their operations. ` ...... if such a group existed.

The closed court session would appear to be an attempt to thwart the attackers desire to `soapbox`` to the media.

The whole point of the attack was to draw attention to his manifesto (I believe he has said as much himself)

Sadly, we are unable to starve attention seekers of the attention they crave.

Inquiring minds want to know his "version"! I'm sure it would be profitable for everyone ready to cash in on his stories. After all, murderers are popular nowadays: It's an ongoing but creepy trend for some reason.

Thats the sad part of it very evol trend indeed...

One of the main reasons why governments around the world are losing credibility with their people is their reliance on bad explanations of relatively simple concepts.

Don't say, "we are afraid he will send secret codes." Anyone with an IQ greater then 75 can discern that such codes -- if they exist at all -- were sent by the attacks and subsequent arrest.

Why not just tell the public that the trial should be closed door because we don't want to give a dangerous lunatic a soapbox from which to spread his contagion?

Keep him off camera, but allow journalists to watch the trail and report as they see fit.

Though in honesty -- a perfect world would forget his name and his reasons entirely. He deserves to be stricken from the rolls and forgotten, like yesterdays trash.

Maybe they are afraid that he knows too much. It may be a replay of the American Quartzsite situation. Remember, he was an active part of the political system for a while.

He may want to tell the world what is really going on behind the scenes.

They may be afraid that if they let him speak directly to the public that the information he says may undermine the legitimacy of the Norwegian government it’s self.

Thing that would be real revolt generators, like…..
They are funding the Taliban/Hamas to wipe Israel off the map..
They gave the heritage fund away to other countries
Something that may be critical to the continued existence of Norway…
You know…Something that only the people in charge know….. Soothing along the lines that the people in charge may flee the country to avoid being prosecuted.

I'm torn in a way, I understand it's a clear cut case, he's guilty of murder? But why use a fair process to prosecute?

As if the Judge/Jury is going to find the killer "not guilty". ..

And like someone has pointed out, we need to confirm the details (so we can be more vigilant in future). Was it a group? Did he act alone?

We only have the goverment's word and the media hype now. We know how reliable they can be....

A few points to add anyway:-

1. They give him a socialist lawyer from the same political party as the kids he killed, and claim he asked for that lawyer (no way for us to check on that, ever).
2. Same lawyer tries to plead insanity (which would get his client locked up forever), despite his client's wishes, and badmouthes his client in front of the international press: "He is insane!"
3. Breivik gets put into solitary, with no outside access whatsoever besides his lawyer, no newspapers/tv, he has no clue that he is being played
4. Trial is delayed for an entire year and the public is excluded (not even a tv camera). Maybe they are afraid that Breivik will bring up the issue of how he was assigned his lawyer?
