Could aliens be communicating through DNA?

(Sorry - no weblink, I couldn't access the archive there. THis is in the 7th August edition.)

According to the NEW SCIENTIST, it may be possible for aliens to be contacting us through our DNA. They reason that there is an infinitely small chance of us being able to receive a signal from an alien given the vast size of the universe, the wide bandwidth of signals to choose from and the timing of whether our civilisation will be listening at the right time.

It is most likely we would be discovered by an alien civ as they survey our planet. THey would then leave a marker, and once we discovered how to read and retrieve that marker, then they would contact. The monolith idea would maybe have to survive millions of years in orbit - being bombarded by stellar rays. Similarly to a stone structure, seismic events and weather could bury any message.

It is known that most of the DNA in living organisms on the planet is the same. Much of this is so called 'junk DNA' that has no apparant use to the design of us. Consequentially, when the DNA is copied this area has many mutations. But there is an area that does not mutate, and because it is so called 'junk', it is possible to insert DNA as a message without it affecting the being.

they will not try to change DNA code to communicate back because if they spelled hi with guanine and cytocine, then how will we say "how do you do" back to them? How do we communicate back?
