Seeing as I lived through (quite aware) the time between Doom and Half-life (which for me really didn't revitalise or revolutionise the genre as some
seem to think it did), I'm sort of biased against FPSes
. Not to say I don't play quite a few and enjoy them, just that they all seem exactly the
same.
I'm somewhat of an older gamer, and more of a PC guy (the only non-handheld console I ever owned was a Sega Megadrive 2), so my list would probably
reflect that...
Monkey Island 2
Planescape: Torment
The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
Beyond Good & Evil
Sonic
Fallout 3 and NV together as one (am playing through 2 now, and it has the potential to perhaps beat this one out)
Knights of the Old Republic as a series
the original Prince of Persia
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Flashback, Another World
Eric the Unready
Grim Fandango
Kyrandia as a series
maybe Space Quest 4
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
maybe The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Beneath a Steel Sky
Abuse
Portal
maybe the Blood FPSes
Painkiller
Blackthorne
Raptor: Call of the Shadows
maybe The Lost Vikings as a series
Anyhow, in no particular order, although the ones on top came to mind easier than the others, and you could probably relegate the "maybes" to a
secondary level. It really was hard to come up with 25!
As can be seen (even from my avatar, for those who recognise it
), I'm something of an adventure game nut.
