46 Dead in Bus Crash in El Salvador

46 people including 9 children were killed when a bus crashed into a ravine in Nacaspilo. According to officials, the bus dropped at least 75 feet to the bottom of the ravine.

Aug. 14, 2004 � SAN SALVADOR (Reuters) - A bus plunged into a ravine in the mountainous northeast of El Salvador on Saturday, killing 46 people and injuring around 20, emergency services said.

Nine children were among the dead when the bus careered over the edge of the ravine and dropped around 75 feet, rescue workers on the scene said.

Police are claiming that the reason for the crash was a mechanical failure in the vehicle. 20 people were also injured in the crash, which happened 100 miles northeast of the capital San Salvador.
