BP pipeline leaks oily mixture onto Alaskan tundra

BP reported yet another pipeline leak at its Alaskan oilfields, frustrating the oil giant's attempts to rebuild its reputation after the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

BP said on Monday that a pipeline at its 30,000 barrel per day Lisburne field, which is currently closed for maintenance, ruptured during testing and spilled a mixture of methanol and oily water onto the tundra.

The London-based company has a long history of oil spills at its Alaskan pipelines - accidents which have hurt its public image in the U.S., where around 40 percent of its assets are based.

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation said the spill occurred on Saturday and amounted to 2,100 to 4,200 gallons.

A BP spokesman said the cleanup was under way and the company would determine the cause "in due course."

Yet another BP screw up... Clean up was under way... who's footing the bill? Taxpayers?

I hope so, since it was most likely an American plant, using American made equipment being staffed by Americans, leased by BP. But never let the facts get in the way of some good old England bashing.

Are you serious? England bashing?
Sorry but the only thing I'm bashing here is the scum running BP... not England.

Wrong. Sorry but I read dozens of threads, thousands of posts and probably hundreds of news articles on ATS when the BP spill happened and nobody was bashing England. They were bashing BP executives.

So stop making stuff up.

Rage courses through my veins as I read this article!

There are so many alternative energy sources to Oil but because there is no profit in them, organizations, businesses and corporations aren't interested!

The natural american reaction is to shift the blame. They hate having to face up to their own wrongs, yet they love to rub other nations faces in it.

BP are scum. They hired thugs to keep reporters away from talking to clean up workers. They are liars and I can't stand those propaganda commercials talking about how everything is fine now.
I wish BP would go extinct. We wouldn't need outside business, wouldn't need the piece of *hit Saudis if it weren't for the misguided, deceived environmentalist nazi's. We could drill our own oil on American soil!

We live here, you don't. BP hired thugs to keep reporters from doing their job. They broadcast their bull propaganda commercials trying to deceive us. I don't care for BP. I don't care for the politicians that do business with them, with the saudis. They are all traitors to their country.

I'm 27 and I know a hell of a lot more than you. I live here, you don't. So unless you know how it was and how it is, mind your own business. You are a punk. This is my country so you can take what you think and shove it where the Sun doesn't shine! BP can go extinct. I don't care about BP. I don't care what happens to it. It can die and I wish it would.

totally convinced they allowed the first spill to attempt to lubricate the faults lines near by. Probably hoping for a quake to disconnect the odd 27 year old from broadband!

Guessing there are lots of faults line near the latest spill!

Nothing I said is stupid. You're the one talking about something you have no business talking about because you don't live here. Where might I be referring to? The U.S.A of course, do you have a problem with reading?
I know you're in the U.K. I figured that out without you telling me. By the way, there still is Great Britain. Great Britain

I'll talk about B.P, and anyone else I want to talk about. What are you going to do about it?
Throw another fit?
You say you're 33 and you behave like some punk.

By the way, we are NOT in the same boat. I know what kind of crap went on during the oil spill. Plenty of proof for it, including the news videos where reporters were forced by armed men hired by B.P. Violating their Constitutional rights.
