It all seemed like such a good idea at the time: recycle, recycle, recycle. But the downside seems to be that it isn't actually safe to serve us our food on past garbage.
Cereal Boxes Cause Cancer!
This particular article is about cancer causing oils in cereal boxes made from recycled waste. The inner linings provide some, but not nearly enough protection.
Then it got me to thinking about everything else that is made from recylced paper: and proudly says so!
Dixie Cups: Hot and cold "contain a minimum of 12 percent post consumer recylced material"
Solo Cups: Made with 10 percent post consumer fiber
Recyled paper food trays
Fast food containers from most places are post consumer recycled material now aren't they?

I didn't see much about this. The article talks about looking into making a change (and one corporation, bless their actual hearts did) but what about the rest of them.

And, why didn't we hear more about this?

Everything causes cancer nowadays man, just get used to it.

As long as this government is in control the people really have no say in anything.

Expendable items are not *Green, anyway so what you've described is a marketing ploy, nothing more. If someone is concerned about environmental friendly/Green behavior, they'd be using their own cups/bowls/plates/etc. and certainly NOT eating fast food... People are what they eat and cancer comes from many things, but in these cases, aren't ya just begging for something to get you down?

I heard about it.

One thing that troubled me when thinking about it was the fact that lots of chemicals, hormones, etc. have been found in drinking water in the US, but only NY has (to my knowledge) built a facility that can actually remove these things, including drugs.

Isn't water a huge part of the recycling process?

If the materials are cleaned up, when we will get to addressing the water? Microwaving and releasing steam doesn't seem isolated from the moisture in the packaging. It is essential to steam to cook in the microwave, so...aren't chemicals from this process left behind in the food?

An evaporation process is a great low tech solution, leaving the heavy pollutants, etc, behind, but I believe that is used for removing industrial contaminants.

New York had begun an ultraviolet facility at the time of the water reports, about two and a half years ago, I believe.

I found more.Rice, Noodles, Bread Crumbs

Even organic foods for those who are trying to be green across the board and only supply their bodies with the best.
It really does seem that if we don't grow it ourself we don't know what's in it.
And there seem to be more and more restrictions on what we can grow ourselves. Or trade with neighbors, buy at famer's markets, etc.

I can't resist making a comment. 3 posters registered today and all of them say, apathetically, "everything causes cancer". Well, no thats not true. And being Aware, Alert, and Active in Speaking Up, Forming Citizens Counsels to Problem is a good thing.

Fukushima causes cancer, radiation does, poisioins and toxins do, much of the food industry does, plastics do, fertlizer and chemicals, even Sunblocks do, but the Sun is very very good for you. Don't wear sunblock and even sungaze at dawn or sunset for a few minutes every chance you get, or let in the sides of your eyes the rest of the time, just cover up at noon. You absolutely need the huge amounts of D it give you and the UV b. Plus it increases your pineal and gives you connections between right and left hemisphere, which not only metaphysically is good for you, but enhances our inner healing as well.

Heritage Foods. Vit A, the oil soluables, E, as well, liver and brown rice, lots of wheat germ, eggs, farm milk and butter, not processed, organic veggies and produce, all prevent cancer, good for your teeth too. Oh, and B 17.

I don't know If you were pointing that comment towards me but you are right, just because someone is a new member doesn't mean they're necessarily new. I've been an active member for quite some time now and I always have credential facts to back up my claims and thoughts about topics or conclusive theories/conspiracies.
And that is only a small minded man's game to judge a person off of how long they've been with a community, I do have my freedom to speak and if what i say catches attention to others me being inferior to the higher ranks would not fall into place unless the person was small minded or an inferior to others in their real world.

Back to the point though, It is almost impossible to avoid any cancer causing things that come into our daily life's.
We can take vitamins, be aware, and keep good health the best we can but there is still a great chance that we can become infected with Cancer. Cancer causing molecules and chemicals are found everywhere from our food's all the way to lotions and plastic as stated in this thread.
It's not that they even mean to harm us just all the cheap stuff they choose to use to lesson product price and increase production amount all have these chemicals in them.
But this is something we all should be aware of by now. Im not sure if this is 100% true but my health teacher my senior year told the class by the time all of the males were 70-75 years old if they even live that long that they would have developed prostate cancer... and to add to all of that we have crazy scientists around the world that come up with whacky inventions. Like for instance, they have created a super salmon that they grow that's growth is increased 3 times of a normal salmon and a test tube hamburger that they grow out of stem cells from an original cow which will be widely used in the next years market..

I am glad that you beat it man. Ugly disease, took my dad, and I would that not another single soul would have to fight it. But, if you had to fight it, I really am glad that you won.

Thanks for that. Prostate cancer. If you're over 40, get the PSA test, get the digital exam, treat it if you're afflicted and get a tat to mark your victory. Worked for me.

The cause? Likely environmental. Modern life is a chemical stew.
