You would think that a civilization capable of inter-stellar travel could come up with antibiotics. At least some aspirin and Nyquil.

Maybe that's why they abduct rednecks; maybe moonshine is like penicillin for them. I know if I visit an alien planet, they better have coffee and tequila or I won’t survive.

So, everyone wonders why aliens have not made contact. Disclosure is lagging and the aliens who are supposed to be among us, fail to show themselves.

There is only ONE reason why.

Here it is.

They are unable to live on earth as microscopic bacteria, of which they have no immunity to, kills them.

There. I have finally revealed the reason why. So everyone can all go about their normal business and forget about aliens.

So just to re-iterate:

They the aliens are unable to live on earth as microscopic bacteria, of which they have no immunity to, kills them.

Peace unto all....

Yup, you heard it here first folks. This earthling has figured it all out! Lets not factor in that the universe is 14ish billion years and our planet a mere 4ish billions years old. So could there a be superior and technologically advanced race or two out in the cosmos who had a huge head start on us in this game we call life?

Or you can go with the OP...
ignorance is bliss

I am sure that if they are a highly advanced species that can create wormholes and light speed in the blink of an eye, they would be smart enough to create bio suits and a proper sanitation method before coming down to our rock.

So If you were to ever space travel, or even go to a foreign country...maybe venture into your neighboors yard... Would you not first take note of your surroundings? Example: BEWARE OF DOG. Then, only go to the parts of your neighboors yard where the leash does not reach. Same with a foreign country. Go to Mexico, but don't drink the water. Perhaps if aliens mastered space and traveled across the universe to find life... just maybe they'd be smart enough to bring extra thick helmets and anti-bacterial spray.

So if the OP is right there is no hope for humankind to colonize other worlds?

Someone said it earlier, but...we are all alien spawn. Unless I missed something, the Earth was a molten pool of magma from "the beginning of time". It cooled and the over a long period of time, water was deposited by meteors, etc. All Earth's water came from somewhere else. And because Earth originally had no life (magma), life was brought by the meteors also...or at least formed because of the deposited water. The only real question after that is was it all by accident, or by another being's plan...to seed us all, on Earth. Therefore...we are aliens.

But I thought we all knew that

Since there's no reason to assume an Alien would even have DNA like ours, it's extraordinarily unlikely that they would be susceptible to our illnesses. Even in the extraordinarily unlikely event that life on another planet had evolved so similar to our own, as to have evolved the exact same system of encoding 'life building block' information onto DeoxyriboNucleic Acid like the life on our planet does....why would you imagine that they would be susceptible. If they can travel the Macrocosm of LIGHT YEARS then it's more than likely that they've developed the ability to handle virtual travel through the Microcosm of DNA, in the sense of remote controlled robots that could literally rewrite DNA if they needed to....pulling apart any viruses and/or bugs from the inside out. Such a thing is much closer to being a reality on our own planet than is the ability to travel light years in fact!!!

I think you have been watching too much of War of the Worlds.

But true, and it can happen vice versa. We goto a planet and we get sick there and possibly we die because of an immunity we don't have.

This is a theory though, so when do go to another planet we could live or we could die of an illness.

What a ridiculous thread. Where is your proof for your statement? For all you know aliens might be poisonous to earth bacteria. Only worth replying to so the OP reads this and thinks twice about posting so poorly.

I agree to an extent, but I've always thought about it the other way around. However, if they are advanced enough to get here then i'm sure they've developed something like a one shot fits all vaccine. If we developed warp drive tomorrow, and found a habitable world within reach of us, we couldn't just pack our bags an move there. Spacemen would not be removing their helmets simply because the air is breathable, they would be in bio-suits. What might be a common cold to any lifeforms on the planet, intelligent or otherwise, could potentially kills us because we have no defense. Now if we had a universal vaccine, we'd be fine. Maybe some day we'll have one, but IF there is another civilization out there, they may already have one.

One thought i've had, not sure how accurate it is of course, just a thought. The galaxy, well universe for that matter evolved from the inside out. There was an explosion and it spread out into different galaxies...and every galaxy did the same thing. We are on the outer edge of the milky way if I remember my science right, so i've always figured that everyone closer in towards the center, if the planet could support life that is, would have had a greater head start in developing new technologies...giving or take a few centuries.

Now look at us, if we bash an object, think of the microbes we are killing...and we don't think twice about it because they are a lower lifeform. Hey, what if aliens visiting us WERE microbes, so small we never see them.

Anyway, I drifted off topic just a bit I think...fun stuff though. You are right, we earned our immunity on this world...unless an alien species had a universal vaccine or wore a bio-suit all the time...it would probably die of the flu...IF they were susceptible to the same viruses that we are. What I mean by this is that cats and dogs get viruses, but many of the viruses they get cannot be spread to humans. I'm guessing that most the viruses out there, such as ones that other animals get can't be spread to humans without a mutation. Probably why we are so vulnerable to hosts in the ape family, since they claim they are distant relatives.

In short, an alien world will probably be just that...alien. Different evolution based on the living conditions, environment, etc. Could be a species that does well in extreme heat or extreme cold, is composed of something other than the same things that we are, such as water. If you consider just how different they could possibly be from us, our own viruses might be killed upon impact with the victim. Really, anything is possible.

Oh come on!!

Anyone that really researches this topic KNOWS that the reason the aliens arent coming here is because the gas prices on their own planet that they use to fuel their flying saucers, have soared in price to where they cannot travel here anymore.

I believe the Plaidean Tribune newspaper reported last week that their gas prices have soared to just over a dozen cattle reproductive organs per gallon.

So they are stranded on their own planet for awhile until they get a [color=gold]bail-out from the USA.

In addition, Republicans are against the request stating that the only assistance that they are in favor of is giving their billionaire oil executives on their planet a big bonus and huge tax breaks. Breaks that will come from the broken backs of the already over-burdened alien middle-class population.

Meanwhile, [color=cyan]Democrats want to give them immediate USA citizenship complete with free housing, vehicles, college, healthcare, food, clothes, fuel, electric, and everything else that even our own tax-payers and veterans cant even get.

Weird world indeed.

Or they're not humanoid (probably most likely), and they also have a superior immune system.

Really it would just need for a species to be in a world highly infections. We can not even fathom the adaptations to that environment.

Just to point out one of my favourite thoughts... in an infinite universe there are an infinite number of possibilities. All of us are guilty at times of thinking logically from our own perspective, it is a human trait. We wonder why the people in [insert country or city] behave like [insert animal/racial slur]. we don't think outside the box. For years we have presumed life needs certain conditions to survive. We are now disproving that on our own planet, in the high pressure and temp environments of deep sea ocean vents. We presume life needs [insert any one of our needs]. The truth of the matter is... we know jack poo. to steal War of the Worlds closing statement and try and pass it off as fact is immature at best(don't feed the troll). Have you not seen the tricorders in star trek?
Any race capable of travelling here would be light years(purposeful fail, I know a light year is not a time measurement) ahead of us. The reason the martians didn't win in war of the worlds is because their technology was not that far advanced from ours, we could build a death ray, if somewhere had enough oil to warrent the outlay.

That is an interesting theory... but -- we are humans... and very not alien -- yet, we can over come this issue with technology NOW. So -- pray tell, how an advanced civilization that can travel from one star to another in a single life time doesn't have technology of this capability?

In the next 20 years we will have nano machines the size of bloodcells that kill any foreign unhealthy and dangerous microbes/cells/virus/bacteria all before it can damage or harm the body.

We almost have this now. We can't (to public knowledge) travel amongst stars. They say that is hundreds if not thousands of years off yet.
