Red Wine Fights Radiation Better than Iodine
Professors recommend the home-made remedy tested after the Accident in Chernobyl

paper.standartnews.com...

Have red wine instead of iodine solutions to curb the effects of radiation. This is the advice of Bulgarian scholars as a response to the panic stirred after the explosions in the Japanese nuclear plant of Fukushima.

Although the explosions in Japan happened at quite a distance from Bulgaria, thousands of Bulgarians stormed into drug stores to buy iodine supplements. This is dangerous as it could damage the thyroid gland, the Bulgarian Ministry of Health alarmed. Red wine consumption is by far a more potent barrier to radiation because of its high tannin concentration, Prof Donka Baykova, deputy chair of the Bulgarian Nutrition Association told the Standart.

Red wine is a strong antioxidant and protects against foreign agents, the professor explained. Research carried out by British scientists, evidences that Bulgarian wines are especially beneficial in such cases, according to Prof Baykova. People in Vratsa, northwestern Bulgaria, are masters in banishing the radiation effects by means of red-wine-drinking and consumption of chili peppers.

The recipe has been brought from Russian and Ukrainian natives who came to the town after the accident in Chernobyl, 1986. The home-made anti-radiation vaccine has been imported directly from the affected lands.

I've got nothing against red wine, I drink it. And the part about people taking iodine possibly having negative consequences is true.

But what research?
What British scientists?
What are their names?
What is the name and date of the paper(s) they published their research in?

Lacking this information, I call hoax.

I'm not saying don't drink red wine, go ahead and drink it if you want, I do. And yes as the article claims, it's an anti-oxidant.

But the hoax part is that Cesium 137 is not an "oxidant". It's ionizing radiation from the Cesium that rips apart DNA and other cellular structures, and anti-oxidants won't stop that.

It's also a myth that iodine fights radiation. All it does is reduce the amount of radioactive iodine getting into your thyroid, if you were real close to a nuclear accident. It does little to fight the effects of radiation outside the thyroid.

This reminds me of the claims of homeopathic medicine where you dilute something until there's virtually no molecules left of the diluted substance in the dose you consume, and that's supposed to help you somehow. I guess some people will believe any claim no matter how silly, even if there's no scientific evidence to back up the claim. At least drinking something with no actual molecules of the curative agent, or a little red wine probably wont do any harm. Red wine in moderation might even be good for you. But that doesn't mean it fights radiation.

But if you drink enough red wine, at least you probably won't care as much about the radiation!

While I realize this thread was meant to show how red wine can help fight radiation, but what about the fact that all that Fukushima radiation that finally made it to California has contaminated more than just milk, fruit and vegetables.

The radioactivity has also long term contaminated the wine grapes that make the wine and so it stands to reason that the wine industry will have dangerous radioactive wine that they will sell because as we all know, big corporations will not do what is in the best interests of the public without a legal fight and a media circus to force them to do what is in the best interests of the public.

This means that as the radiation accumulates and continues to contaminate the wine growers of California and all those farmers that grown food, it should be noted that while the media will talk about radiation in the milk, no one has mentioned the radiation in the wine that will be bottled and sold domestically and internationally.

So while this thread promotes the use of red wine to fight radiation, it would be morally wrong not to mention that the red wine grapes used or grown for future wine will be highly contaminated and will get worse as time rolls by. It is this concern about wine that raises my concern.

I mention this information, because while I support home remedies that one can use in the privacy of ones home, using red wine to fight radiation when the red wine bottled in the near future will be most likely contaminated with radiation makes no sense at all to me.

Anyway, think about red wine as a viable solution provided the wine you consume isn't contaminated with radiation. This is the only message I wish to impart. It is food for thought that should be considered in a mature and intelligent fashion.

Vegetables, fruits, nuts and all the other food stocks that come from California may also be a hazard, but since this thread is about red wine, I wanted to discuss and point out that the wine industry appears very quiet on this radiation concerns and in my opinion, greed is what is making them so quiet about mentioning that all that radiation has also contaminated all the wine growers in California and beyond which will in turn contaminate future wine production that will be consumed domestically and internationally.

When you drink wine in the future, keeping these concerns in your mind will help you to determine if that wine is as healthy as people state it really is considering where it came from and if it might be contaminated with levels of radioactivity that will promote cancers and prove unhealthy to those that consume such wines and fruits and vegetables.

Think about it and if these concerns matter, then by all means don't drink the wine.

Holy crap, I was talking about this to a relative this morning.

I make my own wine, and told a family member I was making a Chilean Merlot, and all of a sudden she wanted to know why Chile?

So, I said it's better for our health!!!! lol!
