Geomagnetic Pole Reversals: Part 1

This is part one of a two part thread. I will start on part 2 when I have time. Part two will include the effects of a pole shift on earth and its inhabitants.

I couldn't find a thread with a substantial enough amount of information/resources about polarity reversals and our supposed current shift therefore I decided to make one. So fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride.

So what is a geomagnetic reversal?
Lets start off with a wiki-definition of the process.

Wikipedia A geomagnetic reversal, which is sometimes called a "polar reversal"[1][2] or a "pole shift",[3] is a change in the Earth's magnetic field such that the positions of magnetic north and magnetic south are interchanged.

So when can we expect the next reversal? Well there is an article from Scientific American from April 2002 which claims that the reversal may have already begun.

Scientific American Though the process can take nearly 5,000 years, the earth's magnetic field periodically reverses. According to a report published today in Nature, scientists may have detected the beginning of the field's next such reversal.

Here is another article from Scientific American but from 2003. This article claims that because of Earth's fading magnetic field there could be a magnetic flip soon.

Here is an article from 2005 that claims that Movement of North Magnetic pole is Accelerating.

To try and keep this thread from getting dramatically long I am going to post some sources alone without description for you to browse if you so wish. I have only touched on the articles available on this subject BEFORE 2006. There are a lot more available on the internet.

Not sure about pole shift but if you look here: earthquake.usgs.gov... you will see something quite disturbing.

Hundreds of earthquakes all along fault line and you can see how long ago these happened (all in the last week!)

There is no evidence of any connection between magnetic pole shifts and earthquakes or volcanic eruption or even massive brown dwarf stars hitting the Moon.

It may be argued that the current rapid shift on the north magnetic pole, and decline in intensity, over the past few decades, is indicative of a pole shift in process. On the other hand, such thing have happened before without a reversal occuring.

In any case, it's happened before, it'll happen again. And life always goes on.

A physical pole shift is what we need to worry about and that is what will happen on 12-21-12. There is evidence of the north pole being in completely opposite sides of the earth and also mass extinctions in a very small time frame which had baffled scientists for a long time. You want to know what the conclusion was for the mass extinctions? An asteroid hitting the earth but it hit ice and therefore didn't leave any evidence because the ice melted.

Um. Yeah...lol!

It was caused by a pole shift and a rapid one where the earth becomes demagnetized causing the continents to move and shift. It's truly apocalyptic.

One person is right though, we have gone on before. But one has to wonder... with all the nuclear energy on this earth right now, yellowstone about to erupt... seems we might turn into the next planet Mars!

Then again perhaps this has a better more reasoned approach if you have 45 mins or so to learn a little.

I think these theories are much more coherent as to what is happening atm.

Well isn't is a fact that yellowstone erupts roughly every 600,000 years and time is about right in fact it's over due for an eruption. If you google there is tons of evidence of yellowstone acting up (earthquakes). And when the continents start moving all hell will break loose. Literally.

sorry for not replying on topic in my last post.

this is very interesting and not too many threads on this topic, i find earths magnetism very interesting and feel there is a whole lot to learn and understand from it.
i'm not to sure i believe 100% of the info in the links provided as i feel those sources are linked to and maybe financially supported by the government, which would not let those release and worrying developments that may cause panic to the public, (maybe its just the conspiracy side of me) but they do highlight as you have mentioned the changes in the earths magnetic field.

i certainly look forward to part two of this topic.

I know I am going to regret getting involved in this thread, but there is absolutely no genuine evidence of a "pole shift" happening in 2012. Even the people who believe in the alleged "Mayan prophecies" don't have anything but their own speculation. There is certainly absolutely no evidence that the Earth's axis of rotation has changed abruptly, if it had, all the stalagtites and stalagmites on Earth would have broken loose from the change in momentum. Scientists do believe that the magnetic poles wander and sometimes change orientation completely, but this has no effect on the Earth's rotation or tectonic activity. If the magnetosphere does "wink out," the effects are indeed potentially catastrophic, as our first defense against solar and cosmic radiation will be down. If you must generate hysterical doomsday scenarios, do some basic research and at least find plausible ones.

I did a thread on the magnetic pole and it's movements a while ago.

Thought it may be pertinent to this thread.

The Magnetic North Pole can move up to 80kms A DAY

Interesting subject. NOAA has an article "Wandering of the Geomagnetic Poles" which gives 55 kilometers a year. Also makes an interesting statement, "...chaotic and independent movement of the magnetic poles..." referring to the north magnetic and south magnetic.

You are correct, you can't readily find evidence you know why? They don't want you to know.
Why don't you do a little more research? I'm a psychic person and an astrologer and also very intelligent. My knowledge comes from mostly spiritual information. I will say there is a multitude of information available to the pondering mind about this coming pole shift.

One, solar maximum in 2012 is coming. Two, Earths magnetic field is down. Three the Mayans BROKE the SUNSPOT cycle and our modern day astronomers can't even fathom such stuff! Three, I'm working with an author who knows a lot about this stuff he has studied Mayan info religiously. Four, the Mayans were correct, they stated the countdown began on July 31st 2010, do me a favor and google that date when it comes to CME's.

The Mayans were right and I don't have the patience to try and make people see the truth. I don't. Open your self up and see for yourself. It's a proven fact that a rapid pole shift has happened and it will happen again. Don't think mother earth is so peaceful.

One: although a solar maximum is due, the latest data suggests we may be headed for a new Maunder Minimum. Two: What do you mean Earth's magnetic field is down? Three: What do you mean the Mayans "broke the sunspot cycle? There is no evidence the Mayans even knew about sunspots. The ancient Chinese, yes. The ancient Greek and Romans, yes. The Mayans? No. Four: Where do the Mayans say the countdown began? I thought they were always counting. When did this prediction come to light? If it wasn't made before August 1st it wasn't really a prediction. In any event, CME's, like earthquakes, pretty much happen on a daily basis.
