How expensive does Gas have to get before you decide to get a Hybrid?

Actually the law of supply and demand would say that gas would become cheaper as the demand for it falls.

I am no economist. I do understand supply and demand, and what you said is false. I think you were trying to mean the opposite - that as demand increases, price drops. Regardless, this does not affect gasoline to the same effect as it does something like VCR's.

What I said is true and common knowledge; that gasoline prices can double without any major appreciable effect on demand. Therefore, go buy your hybrids. The gasoline industry will compensate for it because they can get away with it.

Gas would have to get to around 3.50-4.00 a gallon before i would get a car that burns less fuel or even a hybrid.
I don't know why i don't like hybrids but it seems that they are sort of backwards for the time. we should be working on engines that completely don't use gas but run on an unlimited energy source.

Studies I've read have shown that the average American will not change thier ways until gas prices hit $3.50 a gallon. Until then it will just be an increase in the cost of living most will just grin and bear.

After that perhaps we will see a huge jump in the demand for hybrids. There isn't enough demand yet for manufactures to produce them on a large scale.

I also think that gas might have to exceed $3-$4 gallon before the masses may consider changing over, but as we have seen with the Toyota hybrid, it is starting to get a following. Especially in states with tight emmission laws and higher priced gas such as California.

Oh there are, they call them electric cars that is they dont run on gas...as for the unlimited energy source...that'll be awhile

The hydrogen fuel cell will be a very poerful resource once harnessed, but it may be many, many years before the consumer can see it in basic devices such as passenger cars. The hybrid electric engine design is on the market as we speak.
