Recipients of welfare to be drug tested... GREAT IDEA... lets test our Government employees as well... and the police... I had to take a pee test before I began my job... they should be tested weekly.

www.cnn.com...

I think the Florida proposal would be an ingenious idea except, its a direct conflict of interest with the sitting Governor,.

www.huffingtonpost.com...

His family owns drug testing labs... I wonder who will get the contracts?

I don't think why don't we test, but its a Mandatory thing for them to take the test. (why isn't this the reality?)

We pay them and expect clear heads that rule and control us

Test everyone or no one. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander I say. It's a very discriminatory policy to just test those on welfare, when so many others have received public funded handouts.

This whole country is out of control.. I really do not think it matters who sits in that oval office because they are not the ones pulling the strings...

Test them all ... I bet we would be astonished how many would fail their pee test...

Great idea. With so many failing as our leaders watch us it is time we started watching them. It does make me wonder just how many cultures will change their legal approach to drugs when such transparency is used.

Why don't we drug test our politicians?

We don't because they are a group of morally sound people who can do no wrong, have our best interests at heart and would never do anything to undermine the sanctity of the positions they hold.

Hell, They should do that in cali. That would save a hell of a lot of money, between women having babies, dead beat dads, and the crack heads this could work. yes and all government people as well.

I know i've probably labored this point, but should we not test the bankers, who were handed over trillions of public funds, more than welfare could ever imagine. It's common knowledge bankers enjoy a fair amount of the old Columbian marching powder, which may have fueled their greed in robbing our nations. It seems a little unfair to only target those who receive a certain type of welfare.

I agree completely (with testing all or none.) I believe corporate welfare recipients should be tested before they are allowed to deduct all taxes owed and receive free handouts from the government while the rest of us pay their way. Corporate welfare recipients must be tested. They take far more from the coffers.

Study says most corporations pay no U.S. income taxes

(Reuters) - Most U.S. and foreign corporations doing business in the United States avoid paying any federal income taxes, despite trillions of dollars worth of sales, a government study released on Tuesday said.

The Government Accountability Office said 72 percent of all foreign corporations and about 57 percent of U.S. companies doing business in the United States paid no federal income taxes for at least one year between 1998 and 2005.

More than half of foreign companies and about 42 percent of U.S. companies paid no U.S. income taxes for two or more years in that period, the report said.

During that time corporate sales in the United States totaled $2.5 trillion, according to Democratic Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan and Byron Dorgan of North Dakota, who requested the GAO study.

You paid more in taxes than America's largest corporation

If you are going to test welfare recipients, you have to test the board of directors and executives of nearly all America's corporations. Here's a good list to start with:

Top 10 companies that pay little or no taxes

1) ExxonMobil made $19 billion in profits in 2009. Exxon not only paid no federal income taxes, it actually received a $156 million rebate from the IRS, according to its SEC filings. [Note: Our post last April reported that ExxonMobil was owed $46 million by the IRS.]

2) Bank of America received a $1.9 billion tax refund from the IRS last year, although it made $4.4 billion in profits and received a bailout from the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department of nearly $1 trillion.

3) Over the past five years, while General Electric made $26 billion in profits in the United States, it received a $4.1 billion refund from the IRS.

4) Chevron received a $19 million refund from the IRS last year after it made $10 billion in profits in 2009.

5) Boeing, which received a $30 billion contract from the Pentagon to build 179 airborne tankers, got a $124 million refund from the IRS last year.

6) Valero Energy, the 25th largest company in America with $68 billion in sales last year received a $157 million tax refund check from the IRS and, over the past three years, it received a $134 million tax break from the oil and gas manufacturing tax deduction.

7) Goldman Sachs in 2008 only paid 1.1 percent of its income in taxes even though it earned a profit of $2.3 billion and received an almost $800 billion from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury Department.

8) Citigroup last year made more than $4 billion in profits but paid no federal income taxes. It received a $2.5 trillion bailout from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury.

9) ConocoPhillips, the fifth largest oil company in the United States, made $16 billion in profits from 2007 through 2009, but received $451 million in tax breaks through the oil and gas manufacturing deduction.

10) Over the past five years, Carnival Cruise Lines made more than $11 billion in profits, but its federal income tax rate during those years was just 1.1 percent.

Nice!!

How many Presidents have admitted to doing drugs, and don't forget about the pill poppers, just because you have a prescription doesn't mean your not a drug addict.

Its not about drugs its about control, and they don't have control, unless you give it to them.

Applause...and a star! The politicians need to once again learn: They are NOT our masters, they are our servants. They have no right to have a "cadillac" health care plan that excludes the remainder of the population. They have no right to their lucrative pension plan, which also excludes the remainder of the population. They most definitely have no right to pass ANY UN-Constitutional laws, which in and of themselves is a betrayal...but to further that outrage, exclude themselves from said UN-Constitutional laws...

I agree that public servants should be tested as well. I bet that if they listen to public demand, if it gets there, and require public servants to be tested, the very next laws they pass will be the legalization of a few specific drugs so they can remain in office.

Back in the 80s when Reagan made it a law to drug test, Robert Anton Wilson wrote that it' s stupid if not illegal to consider that the contents of your own bladder are not yours. But of course the Republicans made it the boogieman of the USA to hire someone who does drugs. Now days they can only test you once as a term of employment. Most companies anyway. I'm with you, mandatory drug test for all elected officials in Washington and see what comes up. Testing every 3-6 months & immediate firings to follow for those who flunk. Otherwise do Away with it all together as just plain stupid. Want to end the Mexican drug wars? Legalize it all, drug use goes down in countries that do this, history shows. The CIA has been caught smuggling and trafficking in drugs for decades. Remember GHWBUsh's speech about crack coc aine! It was a national commercial for crack use. The sale of crack sky rocketed the next day and remember Bush used to be the head of the CIA.

Who is going to pass it???
The same people you are wanting to test???

the simple answer to your question is
"because then we would find out how many of our politicians are on drugs"!

There are some things the public just isn't ready for.
There is the country you were told you live in
and then
there is the country you actually live in.

Most people are not ready to learn about the country they actually live in.

In reality we could never get them to pass any kind of bill making them responsible for even themselves and or their habits...
They consider themselves above the laws and above the so called common man.
But you take any dumb plumber and raise him with a silver spoon in his mouth and finance his every whim whilst providing him with an eduational opportunity to rub shoulders with the next gen hoi poloi, and you got another G.W.Bush all over again.....plumbers of america no offense......

Welfare recipents are in the highest catagory for alcohol and drug abuse by wage earnings.

Also, I do not want money that "I" work for to go to pay someones crack or alcohol addiction. These people need to be treated. Or cut loose.

And yes, I agree politicians should be tested too, but I somehow doubt most are on anything but booze or zoloft.

How much more is all of this costing is the question. Plus rehab for these people too? And the kids? Doesn't seem like a real solution to anything except to incite panic and violence. Half of the people will just up and move to a new state anyway. This is just a power trip to gain media attention for another election as always. And of course generated revenue. This won't last.
