Your logic scares me. Where did you grow up and what type of education did you receive. More importantly, how old are you? If you are younger than 15 then I almost want to congratulate you for at least trying to think outside the box. Unfortunately, most if not everything you have stated in the OP is borderline re-re. Sorry brother, but this is one of those posts I couldn't let pass without at least throwing 2 cents in the jar.

Post links to show the percentage of the gamers who have commited violent crimes and it has been proven to be a DIRECT result of gaming. You can't or you're just too lazy to find them. People who are going to commit a crime will do it regardless of what video games they are playing. Just because you let them get control doesn't mean it's some raging problem that's destroying kid's minds. My son plays video games, but he would rather be outside playing football or riding his bike.

While I wouldn't say play is never bad, only because playing airplane on a roof top is probably a bad idea, I would stand by and most certainly say it does a great deal in advancing society. Lions play to be good hunters, giraffes play to compete the strongest neck, which helps them survive. We as a species played, and the result was a sophisticated cultural intellect that is distinctly unique on this planet.

This crappy game was made by crappy developers, the only reason their work is even known is because the public outcry gave them free advertising. Liberty mean liberty for all, not just for those that agree with your view - if only those crying about the game had realised this then they would have shut their mouth and the game would have recieved no attention and would have been forgotten.

Please let us not argue about "its the parents".

Why not? The well known game developers put their own classification on games, if you let your kids buy them that is your own fault.
If your country put ratings on the games then it is your job to take it up with them.

Your post singles out some of the most trashy games, yet seems to purposefully ignore the fact kids are not suppose to be playing them as per recommendations by the developers and restricitions by government rating departments etc.

I agree that there is way too much smut out there these days, but we need to realise whether or not we like it the price of freedom for all is there are going to be things we do not like. Also people these days are hugely desesitised by all this smut and although this is often portrayed as a bad thing, there is no hard evidence to suggest this is the case - Maybe not being freaked out by bloody images will ensure the next generations survive when the SHTF instead of freaking out.

Movies are bad, Music is bad, and Video games are bad. Because all they portray is sex, violence, and drugs. And guess what, kids are having sex, people are violent, and people are doing drugs. Because if you keep repeating the same thing over and over again, pretty soon it's going to happen! If you keep drilling into the people's head all this stuff, THIS WILL BE THE RESULTS! Your argument against the OP is exactly what gamers and the industry have been saying to idiots like Jack Warner for years but no matter how many times you point out that the age ratings are there and it's up to the parents to make sure their kids aren't buying games they shouldn't, it generally goes in one ear and out the other which is a shame.

Also just like the OP did, Jack Warner also brings up those exact same games in every argument he has about why he believes videogames are evil. Every time.

Ok.

Mortal Kombat has had an 18 rating since the very beginning because of the violence and blood but just like with the Evil Dead movies and others that Sam Raimi wrote and directed, it's blatantly over the top and almost comedic to get a laugh.

Duke Nukem has the violence, he also has strippers, bad language and the most important thing, humour and one liners. Duke's games play like most 80s action films in that regard where every movie had a pair of boobs visible in some way, a cheesy one liner and gun fights. Guess what? Those movies and the Duke games are rated 18. Only adults can buy them.

Wrestling and boxing videogames have a 12 rating because they're physical sports with blood involved now and then but they, just like their tv counterparts, are for all ages to enjoy. Is anyone gonna be stupid enough to call for a ban on kids going to hockey games next and not allow them to play hockey videogames?

Kirby swallows enemies alive to kill them and take their powers if they have any, should that videogame also be banned to stop children getting their hands on a game catering to, yep you guessed it, children?

Ban one game for stupid reasons, you might as well ban them all.

I'm tired of videogames being used as a scapegoat in much the same way as tv, movies and music have been. If stupid people wanna do stupid things, that's up to them. To say they were influenced by anything they saw or heard is beyond ridiculous and if they try to claim that then they shouldn't have even been conceived in the first place.

Dr. Dave there is talking about the columbine shootings, both the kids played Doom and Grand Theft Auto.

You know right before they did the shootings, they also bowled..so maybe bowling is what drove them to commit what they did.. Seriously games don't effect anyone, it's the person who plays the game, and if someone is truly worried of their children coming in contact with these games, well be a good parent and monitor what your kids do.

The Bible has just as much sex, violence and drug abuse as any movie, song or videogame.

You know... we, as humans, have a dangerous tendency to make sweeping generalizations based on specific instances. Video games are inherently bad and extremely detrimental to society? All games? Are you sure about that?

Because I'm pretty sure that Angry Birds never made anyone harm animals. I'm also fairly certain that Super Mario Bros. didn't make children eat mushrooms.

I'm going to throw two things out here, and see what you guys think:

1. Perhaps its the gamers themselves who have the problem, and not the games? Do you think that's at all possible? Maybe it's not too crazy to consider the possibility that the kids responsible for the Columbine Massacre would have still went on a murderous rampage even if they'd never played Doom or GTA?

2. For every gamer who sets a bad example for video game playing, there are TONS of others who set good examples. But see, they don't make news. Maybe your brother or best friend is a gamer, maybe even your mom; let's talk about them. Are they good people? Do they function ok in society? Do they care about their friends and family? Why not use THEM as examples of gamers, because the amount of these people FAR OUTWEIGH the number of bad examples that the media chooses to focus on.

If you play a videogame and you have a problem seperating the game and reality and you start to act out whats in the game then there was something wrong with you in the first place.

World of warcraft addiction? I play WoW almost 12 hours a day, No I am not addicted, no I am not overweight/obese. I play it because its a good way to unwind after a stressful day at work. I still exercise plently and socialize alot. I also play other games, among which are CoD, Battlefield, Assassins Creed. I play them, however I dont feel random urges to go out and start slaughtering people. Also about the gold mining camps. If you knew something you'd know that those are usually organized by chinese prison wardens looking to make some extra cash, I dont see who in their right mind would live in such conditions like that.

You can think whatever, Im a gamer, and in my 21 years of playing games never has it influenced my thoughts or decisions in real life.

So the illuminati is responsible? Not human beings themselves, our basic instincts and thousands of years of culminating knowledge, experience and technology? The whole "illuminati" thing has got to be one of the most destructive and idiotic incarnations of conspiracy theories to ever be made up. Are there insanely rich and influential individuals out there who seek to manipulate their peers by any means they deem necessary to profit? Absolutely. Do those same individuals ever conspire together behind closed doors to further their own agendas? You better believe it. Is there some incredibly well-organized cabal made up of the most wealthy individuals in the world executing their plans with accuracy and precision that is beyond human capability? If immediately after reading the above your brain kicks into "he's a sheep," "I know more than him," "He's an agent," or anything resembling that; then you suffer from an inflated ego and a sense of entitlement. Video games are the result of the human being's love of leisure activities. The human imagination loves having a playground for itself. Look thousands of years into our species' past. Let's use Homer's "Iliad and Odyssey" as an example. This tale was an exploration of the human imagination. People indulged in it so that their complex brains could "wander" and experience something new outside the monotony of everyday life.

Movies are utilized in the same way. Books, comics, etc. etc. etc.

Games like checkers and chess challenge us and provide a CONSTRUCTIVE and NON-VIOLENT outlet for our competitive instincts.

Video games have taken the best of both realms, hence their popularity. Challenge and new "worlds" to explore in one little package.

Violent movies, stories and games exist because we are a violent species with an extremely violent past. We live in an unforgiving and violent world. I suppose the illuminati organized far further back than we thought; and have executed their plans to perfection ever since.

Video games being "bad," whether morally or in terms of art or tact is irrelevant.

Games, like all media, are protected as free speech under the first amendment of the US Constitution.

how do i know? because whem i was 10....my parents got me a playstation 1...with GTA1...id played the game before however at a friends house many times...it was rated 18...stealing cars and killing people was what it was all about.....my entire life my dad let me stay up late watching 18 rated films...such as terminator and blind fury etc etc when i was very little....my mother was always the one to send me to bed early...at no point did anything i saw on TV or video game make me want to commit crimes....since then ive gained 10 GCSE'S grade C and above, BTEC national diploma in IT practitioning...Higher National diploma in internet technology....and a bachelor of science degree in web development...and now i work full time as a successful web developer.

both my parents are still together and have both allowed me to go out as a child and play army, play with toy guns, see agressive films, play 18 rated games etc etc...and i still play and watch them today....as do my friends....none of us want to commit crimes as seen in those films or games. my parents didnt bow to political correctness...didnt listen to how other people think children should be raised...they did it their own way...i like to think they did a good job with me and my sister...and i will bring my kids up in a similar way

when a person commits a crime....its nothing to do with TV or gaming they have seen...its their upbringing...combined with financial situation...combined with what they are told is right and wrong...combined with opportunity. i dont even have a criminal record
