Wow - I can see other businesses taking Amazon's leave and exiting California in droves thanks to this law.

Will only exasperate their ongoing economic issues.

California is rather a new state to the tax phenomenon, your state did not begin taxing and regulating itself to death until the 90s whereas the Northeast and Great Lakes started in the 70s. Give it by the end of the decade and living in California will be like living in Rhode Island. Sure you will love it if you have a stable job but for those who already find it hard to survive will have to move somewhere else.

You would be absolutly insane to purposely try and open a business in CA!

I would not invest in a company trying to open branches in CA or start up here. This state is so far gone only a megaquake could save it.

I agree with you Mike but there are very few free men left in the USA most people are slaves to debt.

I live in California.

Trust me, we could really use a mass exodus right about now; especially if the ones leaving are those who are leaving because they don't want to accept the responsibility that comes of being a citizen of this great State.

Sure, you want the sun, and the wine, and the beaches, and the opportunities that the sixth largest economy in the entire world can provide, but heaven forbid that some evil politician would suggest that you pay for all that by paying the same sales tax that everyone else in the state pays on their offline purchases!

It seems that it is all about privilege, and the sense of entitlement that privilege endows, isn't it?

Some people are privileged enough to be able to make their purchases on-line, and in so doing they have had an easy way to evade the sales tax imposed by the state on their non-essential (remember, essential items, such as food are not subject to sales tax) purchases. These elites (although they'd never think of themselves like that, right?) have somehow come to feel that they are entitled to this exemption; maybe because they feel that they are so much more clever than the rest of us schlubs who pay our taxes.

Now that the State has threatened to "level the playing field", they're screaming bloody murder!

Oh, how my poor liberal heart bleeds for them! NOT!

The State of California has to provide services and support for more than 31 MILLION citizens. To do that, it unfortunately, must impose taxes, including sales taxes. Every mom & pop "brick & mortar" store in the State must, by law collect sales tax on every, non-essential, item sold; as a consequence of doing business in the State.

It is patently unfair for a mega-corporation like Amazon to be allowed to avoid this same reponsibility; especially when their "affiliates" are brick & mortar business located in the very same state as businesses that must collect and remit those taxes.

So, if you don't like living up to the responsibilities that living and working (and doing business) in California entails,

Get The #*@* ! Out!

We don't Need you, or your "business", sucking up Our resources and capital for scant little in return.

And don't let the door hit you in the arse as you leave!

Your welcome to it!

The smog, the gangs, the drugs, the violence, the illegal workers getting free medical and responsible for 2 of every 3 births sucking the sate dry like leaches then putting heir flag om the post office...

Did you know that California tried to tax satellites passing over the state?

Drugs, gangs, and violence are an unfortunate part of most US cities these days. And this is not a "modern" phenonenom either: Remember "The Gangs of New York City"?

Gangs, violence, and even drugs (back then it was predominately alcohol, but then so-called "patent" medicines available over-the-counter contained things like cocain, opium syrup, and even lithium!) were a part of life as well.

And let's not forget that so-called "illegals" are here because they can find work here; if that fact bothers you, confront the citizens who provide immigrants with the jobs that drew them here, not the immigrants.

When industriousness, personal responsibility, and self-motivation become scornful qualities in a population, that population becomes fit only for slaughter.

And let me tell you, I work for the State's main tax agency; the undocumented WORK for their livings!

And they PAY their taxes.

(they're too afraid of deportation not to)

Not like those wealthy "citizens" who try every "trick" in the book to avoid paying a fair share every chance they get, then scream like children when the State bills them $20 for the millions in income they've sucked out of the State's pockets.

Not like mega-corporations like Amazon who try to write legislation and ram it through the State's legislature so that they don't have to even collect the sales tax owed by thier customers, which every Other brick and mortar business in the State is required to do.

I've lived here all my life. I can't think of a better place to live. I've seen a lot of canges, and I'll grant that not all of them have been good. But I'm staying, I'm trying my best to make things better.

I'm taking responsibility for my responsibility as a citizen,

Of my State, My country, and this Planet.
