Notable is that this is only really necessary for sugar based spills. Water will dry easy enough on its own without much of a problem. Just towel it down best you can.
Item One: shut it down, pull the battery
The rest:
For the tech-savy, take all 9000+ screws out (or at least thats how many it will feel like you are taking out), pull the hard drive, memory, any additional cards out, then begin disection. Take it all out, every last piece.
Make up a vat of hot water with just a bit of plain old dish soap dropped in.
Very VERY carefully rub each and every piece (circuit boards, hardware, casing, etc) with a lint-free cloth dipped in the water. This removes the sugary compound and leaves a nice clean surface behind. Inspect each part under suitable light at many angles before signing off on it as being "clean".
Once clean and dry, put everything back together and fire it up. You should not notice hardly a twinge and it will last years longer than just turning it over and dripping dry.
I would caution the words CAREFULLY and SLOWLY throughout the process. The keyboard and the monitor are attached by short, fragile ribbons that will tear very easily if handled roughly.
Oh, and if you are a rookie at this, you might want to make a diagram of what goes where and at what stage or putting it back together will be like trying to get that square peg through that round hole.
Cheers!
