I suggest an adult forum for taboo topics

Here me out

an adult forum for topics that ATS currently frowns on (such as drugs, sex, rocks and roll)...

Area should not be searchable through current normal methods, or able to hit the front page
Area should require you to digitally sign that your of age (respective of the community)
Area should not allow lewd or illegal discussions still (no posting of porn, no talk on how to make bombs or drugs), but allow for subjects discussing legalities and such to find a home...

I think this could solve a whole lot of issues with people feeling subjects are censored, and the real dilemma of wanting to have a all topics open for discussion environment without scaring off ad revenue.

Has this been considered yet? is it possible?

I say this only because there are some topics that I would like to see cracked open that ATS frowns on and often deletes, even when the thread is civil and intelligently put together...

I know there are times when I can hardly hold myself back from swear words, man would I like to let loose with swear words, those list of gems George Carlin used to speak of.
But alas, there might be kiddies hanging about here in ATS.

Do they not already have the forum for drugs? At least discussion, and not advocation. Unless you are asking for a place to advocate drug use? (Honest question.)

Sex? I did not know they censored sex discussion(s). Though I see it as a BTS subject (Relationships forum).

Rock and roll, I assume was just added for the phraseness. Considering there is a music forum as well (BTS again)

Maybe some more clarification?

From what little I've seen in here that slips through the gaps, the two are at opposite ends.

No doubt there are some who can...but majority rules my friend.

No, no forum I know of on ATS allows for a discussion of say, the merits of legalizing mary. write a thread about it in pretty much any angle and it will quickly become 404ed...
the other day, ron paul and barney frank sponsored a bill to make it legal and put on the states burden to decide...a thread (or 10) were made on this and they were all killed because of the rule...

as far as sex goes, I am here because someone is ranting about a "make incest legal" style thread being nixed because it was creepy and could cost ad revenue...there are other provocative subjects in that area that are wiped also...and there are also some threads that didn't get wiped, but probably should have been pushed out of the everyone access place into a more adult themed area.

there are also other subjects of controversial nature that perhaps is not approprate for a 12 year old to have accidental access to overall...no, we aren't the parents, however, an area that could possibly be blocked by a responsible parent where adults can not worry about descriptions or concepts not good for the thanksgiving table can be discussed easily.

No, I don't forsee such a place as a flame board either, or a place to troll and curse...just the topic nature

anyhow, a new area doesn't rewrite the rules...trolling, flaming, etc...all that is still a no go, just the topics being discussed itself.

I think you'd have to ask those questions on a different forum altogether because as far I as I understand, it would involve either changing or completely going against the ATS TOU... and that would have everyone in a flap.

I did say unfortunately....Yeah it's a mess.

Back to an adult forum, I just don't see it, not while the majority aren't mature enough to participate.

Would love to be shown that I'm wrong about it though.

the only way it would work is for age to be confirmed by credit card make it for donators only and bilk us for a 5 or 10 dollar a month donation...

It is the "Alternative Substances" forum. It does not show up on searches, just like you suggested. Read the rules in there before posting, as to be expected they are detailed.

May I see a source to this. IE Which moderator said this was the reason, or what rule says this is the reason? Are you sure the threads are not wiped because the topic is "undiscussable"? That certain mindsets would never be able to discuss those topics without intense anger? These reasons are why I assume the threads are not allowed. Not the topic, the debators are nixed. Remove the platform for the anger, and the arguing will cease. (Incest would ruffle feathers, I am sure we can agree.)

Fair argument here. This is up to ATS though, do they want to wipe out a section of their population to please the rest?

If done properly most any topic may be discussed. It just requires extra work, and much rule reading. Anyway, check out that link above, It is also on the main forum page at the bottom of the "red icon" section of forum links. (First section, third column, last row.) It has no label, just an icon.

psh, I waste $5 a month on a game I don't even play cause I spend most of my freetime here - I'd gladly donate $5 a month to hear what some of the board members think about certain topics that we avoid and I'm continuing to avoid by calling them avoided topics

isn't this entire section against T&C?

Adults should be able to discuss such topics in front of children in a way that allows them to learn from the experience of others. If children do not want to know, or not ready to learn, they quite simply will turn away and look elsewhere, but it is always better to have that information openly discussed (with intelligence), than to hide it away. If those who claim adulthood and then behave like children, wishing to brag or sensationalise, then they should be reprimanded like the children they have demonstrated themselves to be.
