Pilot turns back after cat attack.

A cat gets free of its cage in an airplane, and attacks a pilot. The co-pilot was hurt badly enough that they had to return the plane to the airport, and put the passengers on another plane, minus one cat and one cat owner.



Imagine the scenario, I know it is what most of you are thinking right about now. What if the plane went down, because the pilot couldn't handle a cat?

I thought they would have tighter security on the cockpit door.

IM surprised that the cat was able to get in to the cockpit!

Also I�m surprised that the animals travailing on planes are not in a more secure place,
But I guess this is only one event so it could be classed as a one off I hope.

Better than some big dog getting in there I guess

Cats can be so very aggressive when provoked im not surrprised he had to turn the plane back but just think of how much it cost todo so what a waste of money lol.

I am surprised that nobody else on the plane saw the cat, and stopped it before it had the chance to get to the cockpit.

You'd think that atleast one person would of seen it.

So, the question needs to be asked. WHY WAS THE DOOR OPEN? I have read many thing that say the door MUST stay closed during a flight. I have been on many flights where they just leave the door open. There is a reason for the BIG locks in the doors, USE THEM.

Locked lol i flew from the UK to Portugal last year and i could see in the cockpit they had it open for 10 mins at a time. giving the pilot coffee ect.
I was amazed as i thought that this was ment to be something kept locked due to terror acts. the plane i was on was a Boing 747.
thewy even at one point put something by the door to keep it open while she went and got his dinner!!!

The cat managed to slip through the cockpit door as a flight attendant served lunch to the pilots.

Hmmmm........ sounds kind of..... unsafe?

They dont think hijakers wont wait untill its time for dinner? Its a no brainer, Put a slot in the door, pack a lunch jyst keep the door closed.

Small pets may be carried in suitable luggage in the cabin

First of all, pet should not be allowed in the cabin. What if there are people in the cabin that are allergic to the cat? Isn't that why they stopped serving peanuts on flights?

As an investigation got under way into Monday's incident, Mr. Sciot explained that it appeared to be essentially a freak accident, caused by a series of circumstances:

- The cat's owner was apparently sleeping when it escaped from its travelling bag

- A child in a neighbouring seat may have interfered with the bag, releasing the cat

- Nobody alerted the crew before the cat slipped into the cockpit as meals were being served to the crew

He stressed, too, that the cockpit had been open for no more than "five to 10" seconds, in respect of safety guidelines brought in after the 11 September 2001 hijackings over America.

The cockpit should not be opened at all, unless it is an emergency. I remember a while ago, I was on a flight, and I was very young, and a sturdiest and I went into the cockpit to meet the captain. I would like to see that happen now. I even think that 5 - 10 seconds is long enough for something to happen.
