Something I doubt will feature on the mainstream news, after all, can't say anything bad about wonderful coal, can we?

Birth defects are significantly more common in areas of mountaintop coal mining and are on the rise as the practice becomes more common, according to a study by researchers at Washington State University and West Virginia University.

It'd be interesting to know whether similar results occur amongst other species, not just humans.

The sooner we switch off coal, the better for everyone.

Sure this isn't propaganda in support of nuclear power to quell the outcry of the masses? I'm pretty sure defects around Fukushima (and Nebraska?) will be a little worse. And by little I mean so much worse as to not even be comparable.

West Virginia University is pretty much owned by coal companies and coal supporters, so for this to have come from that school's research tells a lot about it's validity.
