Bellevue family sues FBI over 'terrifying' raid

www.pittsburghlive.com

The incident destroyed his confidence in the police and his ability to sleep through the night, he said.

"They had guns on my wife, my babies. I'd like to know how they would feel -- the people in my house -- if that happened to them," he said.

Denise Adams, 58, said seeing the red dots from the officers' targeting lasers crawl across her children's faces also has cost her faith in law enforcement.

"I don't want to, but this was terrifying," she sobbed.

Sometimes I think we really do need a police brutality forum. But it would be a chore just keeping up with the daily stories such as this one, and this one I posted a few days ago. www.abovetopsecret.com...

So, all of this nanny state technology, and nationwide databases, and the police still can't figure out who lives where? Why don't I believe that?

Seems more like a push to terrorize the public, and convince us we need even more draconian measures to keep us "safe".

Be afraid. Be very afraid. And don't forget to pay your protection money.

We must be trying to catch up with the UK. Or are we already there?

From them?

Accidents happen, purely an unfortunate incident.. Their greatest failure here was in their inability to turn this into a completely justifiable raid, and use of force... It's too bad for them that the occupants didn't resist... Maybe they could have gotten away with killing them all?

If there's one thing you learn as a database administrator (c'est moi), it's that there's nothing less accurate than the data in a database. All they do is vastly accelerate human error. Humans still enter all that data, humans who may not have had their coffee yet, humans with carpal tunnel syndrome, humans who can't spell, humans who don't check their work; the list of data-corrupting influences is endless. Remember the voter registration records in Florida in 2000, how totally inaccurate they were? That might be an example of actual deliberate data manipulation, as might the vote tally itself be (from electronic voting machines at least). I'm sure the cops put way too much trust in it, but getting the wrong address isn't really "their fault." It's the fault of whatever data entry person got it wrong in the first place. They just use whatever data they're handed; verifying it isn't their job.

Breaking down the door and threatening the life of every man, woman, child, and dog in sight, however... that's just ignorant brutishness designed to intimidate us lowly peons. They're thugs because they've got power over us, and they think it's perfectly justifiable to use unnecessary force against suspects who they're supposed to presume are innocent unless they witness them doing something criminal. A search warrant, to them, seems to mean, "Everyone on these premises is guilty of something, so we don't have to be even the slightest bit respectful to them." If they keep it up long enough, nobody's going to respect law enforcement anymore, either. I guess it's a good thing they don't need our respect, huh? Just our tax dollars.

Something somewhere is very very wrong. And it has nothing to do with databases. This is a symptom of what our overlords think of us. Those in charge of the police should get proactive about making officers behave themselves instead of spinning facts to justify whatever the officers do. Every time this happens, some police spokesperson basically tells us "Yeah, it happened, but whatcha gonna do?" Saying the truth would mean admitting that they think themselves gods over us. They'd never sacrifice their reputation; they only protect their own.

Good is all about self-sacrifice; evil is all about self-preservation. And databases control our lives, but they're only as accurate as the humans who stuff things into them. Good luck, everyone.

No way. Not from them.

Ive learned in my 15+ years working in government that it's never ever ever their fault.

You see, we cant stop acting like criminals. This forces them into the criminal fighting business. Granted they made so many of criminals with their endless regulations and legislation but that too is for our own good.

So we forced them into crime-fighting for our own good. It's our fault they have to kick in our doors. For our own good.

If that family were true American patriots one of them would have confessed to all the crimes of the individual they were looking for, the rest of the family would have thanked them for kicking their door in and neighbors would have stood along the exit route clapping and cheering as they drove away.

God speed you brave officers of the law. God speed.

Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

And still the bureaucrats look to the great computer as an infallible justification for their tyranny.

"You say you paid that bill? Well, the computer disagrees."

Who wins in that exchange?

Now it's crossed from bureaucratic nuisances into life and death paramilitary raids.

I usually don't make too many posts here and just come here to read for recreation, however this post made me want to step up and make a point......all this is necessary since 9/11. anything is justifiable, at this point, to keep America safe.

Interesting take on this. Are you saying this is something you would be willing to see your family go through if it kept America safe?

At what point does the system become more of a threat than the "terrorists" they are "protecting" us from?

Thanks for your input.
