The Sudanese government recently promised that local Arab fighters had been taken under control, sadly just the opposite was true. While villagers who believed the government's claims returned to their homes, militants mounted on camels armed with guns swent through the ranks of returning villagers and began to attack. The militants killed at least three people and some animals in the attack.

Scores of terrorised Sudanese refugees who believed Government promises that the local Janjaweed Arab fighters had been reined in have been attacked just days after they returned home.

Mounted on camels and waving Kalashnikovs, marauding militiamen rode into the fields near Fasha, 30 kilometres north of the provincial capital Nyala, on Thursday and hunted down black African peasant farmers planting sorghum.

The murderous raid, one of many in recent days across the desolate terrain of Darfur, made a mockery of Khartoum's claims that it is bowing to international pressure to restore security to western Sudan.

Clearly Sudan is not under control of the situation in the Darfur region. It almost looks that international intervention will be imminent in the area. As long as attacks like this continue, and the government there continues to make false claims, then innocent lives will be lost.

Of course the US government lies to us..... and no one seems to scream international intervention.... just a thought.

Interesting article on the news in the UK last night saying that the Sudanese gov wants the refugees to go home so as to make it easier for the ethic cleansing to continue unabated, but the pesky refugees are staying put...safety in numbers.

Now here's a middle east-ish country that actually needs a good invading...
And I bet this time the people actually want our help...

I agree that they really do want someones help. However, the unfortunate fact is, no outside nation would benefit from doing so. Sadly, that is why it will be some time, if any help is given at all, before something is done. I know that may seem very synical(sp), but also realistic.
