what you do take whatever item your want to long term store... lets say it's flower... Put that flour in a large pickle jar... them drop in a small chunk of dry ice... the CO2 is heavier than air so as it sinks it displaces the O2...without oxygen most bacteria will die...so you give the dry ice four or five minutes to do it thing with the lid on lose enough the air (O2) is pushed out... then you simply screw the lid down tight... there you have it poor mans vacuum sealing
