The 1815 eruption is rated 7 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index, the only such eruption since the Lake Taupo eruption in about 180 AD.
The explosion was heard on Sumatra island (more than 2,000 km (1,200 mi) away). Heavy volcanic ash falls were observed as far away as Borneo, Sulawesi, Java and Maluku islands.
The eruption created global climate anomalies that included the phenomenon known as "volcanic winter": 1816 became known as the "Year Without a Summer" because of the effect on North American and European weather. Agricultural crops failed and livestock died in much of the Northern Hemisphere, resulting in the worst famine of the 19th century.[6]

It has happened before and at some point, gonna happen again.
Have you read that great catastrophist Mr Velikovsky? "Worlds in Collision" is an amazing work. I don't hold with every theory of his, but I think he got so much right.
He was totally witch hunted for that book by the establishment scientists at the time. Now his ideas are not so bizarre! He was a genius at finding patterns in the world myths, like an Einstein of mythology!

Oooops.
British Researchers are giving us a warning regarding the Campi Flegrei volcano near the italian city Naples. People say it is the “Father of Vesuvius” and might end life on the European continent if it is going to erupt! The Campi Flegri volcano, located near Naples, is considered to be one of the biggest and most dangerous volcanoes in the world.
The Campi Flegrei volcano is inactive for more than 4,00 years. Scientists think that this volcano might erupt in the next 10 years, because of the fact that 1,000 small intensity earth quakes took place in the last few years.
