Hi all.

I got a major wake up call on my wednesday the 15th Yahoo news!

If this news article is true, the next little ice age is near-immediate!!

news.yahoo.com...

Scientists predict rare 'hibernation' of sunspots

WASHINGTON (AFP) – For years, scientists have been predicting the Sun would by around 2012 move into solar maximum, a period of intense flares and sunspot activity, but lately a curious calm has suggested quite the opposite.

According to three studies released in the United States on Tuesday, experts believe the familiar sunspot cycle may be shutting down and heading toward a pattern of inactivity unseen since the 17th century.
..............

Experts are now probing whether this period of inactivity could be a second Maunder Minimum, which was a 70-year period when hardly any sunspots were observed between 1645-1715, a period known as the "Little Ice Age."

"If we are right, this could be the last solar maximum we'll see for a few decades. That would affect everything from space exploration to Earth's climate," said Hill.

oooh Boy!

Little Ice AgeThe Maunder Minimum coincided with the middle — and coldest part — of the Little Ice Age, during which Europe and North America were subjected to bitterly cold winters. Whether there is a causal connection between low sunspot activity and cold winters has not been proven; however, lower earth temperatures have been observed during low sunspot activity.[3] The winter of 1708–9 was extremely cold.[4]

Solar activity events recorded in radiocarbon.
Graph showing proxies of solar activity, including changes in sunspot number and cosmogenic isotope production. Some scientists hypothesize that the dense wood used in Stradivarius instruments was caused by slow tree growth during the cooler period. Instrument maker Antonio Stradivari was born a year before the start of the Maunder Minimum.[5]

well well well, goes with my own Idea that the next Ice Age is upon us all! The next 50 to 70 to 100 years, the new Normal, then, after this weak solar sunspot cycle is over, is for you, your son, your grandson, and beyond.

maybe the glaciers will close the Alp passes, the Thames will freeze over to bear a man, every year with London getting Montreal winters with 30 to 80 inches of snow per year and Atlanta, Georgia will have to have a snow removal budget. 30 below for the Northlands of the USA and Canada and Russia might be without food crops!
[watch the 27 year cycle of ww I and ww II go into ww III, around 2020-23 as food gets scare in the Northcountries, Russia, Canada , North Europe, North USA!]

This is not good.
here is an article that is the climate equal to reading that butter is better for you than margerine and that wooden cutting boards are far safer than plastic boards! [both are true!]

Here we all are, being Primed to accept global warming and thus this global warming is the *LAST* reality to soon occur!
Get your arctic parkas now and lay in a good supply of firewood and learn to love cold and snow! The ice is returning to a Northern mountain near you, soon!

It wont happen over as short time span as a year... The temperature will most likely drop off over years and i think we might be in the very start of this period now.
Either way temps will most likely come down if sun is one of the major climate drivers.

Yes, obviously, this will not begin within months. there is at least a year, maybe two, of the sunspot cycle to go.

I have a theory that within the sun are cycles within cycles, wheels within wheels, and there are times when the spots dissappear for years and years.
I was Impressed when I first learned about the major drought cycles of the Aztecs and mayans. These droughts lasted for up to 150 YEARS!! During the last little ice age, most of the alp passes closed and one could walk across the Thames river every year.

Yes, global warming will offset the chill to a degree.
An Ultimate Irony here people: that the "stuff" that causes global warming might be our climate Savior! That within 30 years, both Russia and canada and the Northlands in general, might still be able to grow food crops *because* of global warming!

I see it now, a bumper sticker for the year 2016, "burn coal today, keep the ice age away"!

We are still technically in an ice age because there are still ice sheets at the north and south poles

Yup

Being where I am, our winters are already bitterly cold, down to -40 celcius, and then add wind chill. I'm not worried about the winters, you get used to it.

I read both the links, and couldn't find anything about the summers. If we still have some kind of summer, we can still grow some food, or pick wild stuff. Plus the trees will survive.

Did the mini ice age still have summers? Even if short ones? I'm not finding much info on that, might be time to stock up on some stuff. At least with lots of snow, there's still water

***anyone thinking of buying an electric car might want to see what the warranty is on the battery pack. Cold weather kills batteries, which is one of the reasons that the Cdn government is not pushing for us to buy electric.

Just what I ws thinking...

I really hate cold, I'm a sunchild, born in the wet tropics and lived most of my life in dry tropics.

Now I'm here in this cold Holland and I hate the thought of a mini ice age.

I looked up some villages in northern Norway and Finland.
They look cozy and I thought: I could learn to live like that BUT I must have a summer!!!!!

Not only so I can grow food, but to see and feel the sun on my skin is a must.
If not, my very soul shrivels.

Theoretically, it only takes one unseasonal summer in which the ice pack doesn't melt to cause an ice age.

Look up the Year Without a Summer. That was caused by the eruption of Tambora, but it'll give you a pretty good idea of what could--could, mind you, not definitely will--happen.

If the hallmark of global warming is warmer winters and not warmer summers, then "global cooling" would have to mean colder winters. It just stands to reason.

So we have a Little Ice Age from the sun to combat Global Warming. Perhaps these things will cancel one another out, and we will be lucky this go-round.
